Milk Glass or Hobnail Stitch

Also known as Aligned Cobble Stitch

This stitch is used to imitate Fenton Art Glass known as Milk Glass or Hobnail Glass.

example of milkglass ceremics

Normally done with white thread or yarn. If done in yarn frequently doesn't need starching since the yarn seems to hold its shape better, but not always.

This is for stitch only-can be used to make blanket- note: hobnail pattern is only on one side. backside is flat. If you don't put the sc row between then you end up with hobnails on both sides and this is not what you want with the MilkGlass look.

Chain even number plus one.

Row 1: sc in 2nd st from hook, *trc in next st, sc in next st; repeat from * across ending with sc.

Row 2: ch 1, sc across, turn

if you want hobnails close together repeat row 1 and 2 to desired length.

if you want more space between hobnails repeat row 2 for additional rows, ending with hobnails facing away from you before you repeat row 1 again.

See picture: sample swatch of hobnail stitch

first group is repeated rows 1&2 two times, then I used row 2 for 3 rows then one row1, etc.

example was done with 4ply worsted weight yarn and G hook.
