The Bedchamer of Alexander I
State Bedroom or the bedchamber of Alexander I
This lovely room has not yet been restored after it was set
on fire by the Nazis in 1945. This picture shows how many of the
rooms of the palace appeared in the middle of the 19th century.
As one can seen by the clothes about the room, these chambers
were actually used, and the modest furniture of everyday life
seems out of scale with the room. This was the bedroom of Alexander
I and the clothes, boots and hat are his. The windows are open
to garden, look carefully to notice the doors are doubled to keep
out the cold.
