Similarities and Oddities of FFVII

Sure, FFVII is a cool game. But there are things that bring up questions concerning characters. I found many similarities and/or references to other thing. Read on if you dare! O_o **This whole similarities idea is my original. After seeing all those "You know you play too much FFVII when" sections on EVERYONE'S (well, not literally) pages, I got sick and tired so I created this instead. Anyway I'll say again that this is my original idea, and if you see someone else out there with this same type of write-up, it means that he/she is A: a dirty bastard who steals ideas, or B: a person who simply came up with it him/herself, and that person myself have never made contact to know about each other.

1. Cloud's spiky hair is (obviously) similar to characters' from Dragon Ball Z.

2. Sephiroth is almost a video game-version of Tasogare no Prince from Cutey Honey Flash (the new series). They both wear trench coats, have a cool, calm personality, are tall, mysterious, and have long silver hair!

3. The Masamune Sword has been used in various other video games/Anime.

4. Tifa's overall resembles (at least to me anyway) Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. Both are dipicted as strong, independent characters and wear similar attire (the shoes, the shirt, etc.)

5. Tifa's hair (where the end sorta splits in two) reminds me of a dolphin's tail. And Tifa DOES have "Dolphin Blow" as one of her Limit Breaks...Hmm...

6. Aerith's twisted hair reminds me of a strange breadstick I once ate.^_^

7. Aerith is like Belldandy from Oh, My Goddess! They are both kinda goody-goody characters, always smiling, and are deeply religious (well Belldandy is a Goddess herself, so she IS the religion^_^;), and have magic abilities.

8. Tseng from the Turks seems like Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction. (Mind you,Tseng is much cooler and better-looking and all,) but the fact that they both wear business suits, work as hit-men and bear the same hairstyle still remains.

9. Kintaro from the Golden Boy Anime looked like Reno in the opening. And I know I've seen another Anime character who looks like him somewhere but I can't remember...

10. Don Corneo (the dirty perv at the Wall Market) is a spinoff from Don Corleone (The Godfather). Naturally, the only thing these two have in common are their names, and the similarities end there.

11. Bugen-Hagen (the guy in Cosmo Canyon with no feet) reminds me of one of those inflatable clowns that you can punch (in the shape of a huge bowling pin). Take that, Bozo!!

12. The girls from the HoneyBee Inn looks like copies of Q-Bee, the new character from the Vampire Saviour game.

13. Scarlett and Esmeroad/Emerald (from Sailor Moon R) are practically mirror images. Both are women of a high-ranking position, like dressing fancy, have the same personality, and most of all, have a trademark laugh!^_^

14. Barrett and Zangief from Street Fighter have similarities. (Submitted by Phoenix).

15. Swinging back to the subject on Oh, my Goddess, I also think that Skuld would fit as Yuffie, and Urd as Tifa.

16. Sakura from Street Fighter Alpha 2 is a similar character to Yuffie. Both have matching personalities, same short hairstyle (albeit Sakura's is a lot messier), strange attire (I know I wouldn't fight in a school uniform^_^), and have a somewhat cocky attitude.

17. Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Taishakuten from RG Veda (the Manga), and Setzer from FFVI (FFIII in U.S.), are also similar to Sephiroth silver hair, black trench coats (except for Taishakuten, who doesn't wear trench coats^_^). Submitted by Kouryuu.)

18. The way Cid swings his head around (when he does his Limit Break) reminds me of Lei Lei/Hsien-ko from Vampire Hunter.

19. Rufus ShinRa resembles David Caruso (plays Detective John Kelly from NYPD Blue. As both are red-heads (orange-heads?^_^), spoiled, and wear suits and trench coats. Submitted by Foaming BadBird.

20. IMHO, the scene where Cloud rides his motorcycle through the window to escape the ShinRa building is a spinoff of when the T-1000 did the same thing to jump onto a helicopter from the movie Terminator 2.

21. (Also from Terminator 2), the scene where the T-1000 jabs the Terminator through with a metal rod reminds me of the way Sephiroth stabbed Aerith.

22. Sometimes I see an aloe vera plant when looking at Cloud's hair...^_^

23. Cloud's Bastard Sword. I immediatley remembered the Flat Bastard (yes, that's what it's called) file I used in metalwork class at school. The Flat Bastard is the coarsest file, and you use that for all your basic filing.

24. Aerith's Mythril Rod sorta looks like the vegetable peeler I have at home...^_^;

25. Aerith's Striking Staff reminds me of a hockey stick.-_-;

26. All of Tifa's weapons that have blades on them (Mythril Claw, Tiger Fang, Dragon Claw, etc.) remind me of the Mutant Wolverine from X-Men.

27. Yuffie's Razor Ring seems to be the same as the chakram that Xena uses.^_^

28. Yuffie's Twin Viper and Magic Shuriken are similar to the detachable cutting blades for a vegatable shredder/cutter I have at home...

29. Vincent's Level 2 Limit Break transformation into Death Gigas resembles a Frankenstein monster.(IMHO.)

30. Vincent's Level 3 (Hell Masker) is, of course, Jason's twin from Friday the 13th.=)

31. Aerith's Healing Wind Limit Break is the same as Fuu Hououji's. Fuu's healing magic was also called Healing Wind. (FYI, Fuu Hououji is the green Magic Knight from the Anime Magic Knight Rayearth).

32. Yuffie's Limit Break Greased Lightening is as the song is from the musical Grease. Submitted by Lancer1457.

33. Most of the main characters of FF are halfs (Terra is half-esper, Cecil is half-Lunarian, Cloud is clone and injected with Jenova cells, etc.) Submitted by Chi-Fu Michael Chou.

34. Main character fights against someone who has some tie to him/herself or the story in some way. Also submitted by Chi-Fu Michael Chou.

35. Sephiroth's motive and all is pretty much like Tetsuo from Akira, and also similar to Lucifer/Satan. All wanted to become God, for one thing, and just between Sephiroth and Tetsuo, they both were sorta subject to experiments. This one was submitted by afn23950@afn.org, and "Me".

36. Cait-Sith might be similar to that of a character by the same name in the new Vampire Princess Miyu stuff. (Cait-Sith there is a "Western Shinma" who betrays both sides for his own interests.) Submitted by afn23950@afn.org.

37. As mentioned in the Unofficial Final Fantasy VII Guide (by Versus Books), one of the Magma Divers from "Neon Genesis Evangelion" clearly appears in Dio's mansion. Also submitted by afn23950@afn.org.

38. Cait-Sith is heavily based on a mythological character in Irish faerie lore; "Cait-Sith" literally means in Irish Gaelic "fae cat". Cait-sidhe were the basis for "King of the Cats" stories, as well as (in a derived form) the fairy tale "Puss In Boots". Cait-Sith also tells fortunes and uses heavily luck-based attacks (as is proper for a faerie :), has little boots and a cape (to go along with the "Puss In Boots" kitty), and even has a little crown (befitting for the King of the Cats). Submitted by the same guy as goes for above.

39. The song at the last battle (against Sephiroth), "One Winged Angel", is heavily based on the classical music set "Carmina Burana". Also submitted by afn23950@afn.org.

40. Cid has been in almost every FF game so far (II, III) Albeit his character has changed considerably. Submitted by The Wendigo. Also, Vicks and Wedge appeared as sub-characters in FFIII (FFVI-Japan) as well, and in Egyptian, Shinra basically means "Great Evil".

41. To me, Vincent and Spawn are very much alike. Both have dark, grim personalities, their bodies have special abilities, and both have a cool crimson cape!

42. I just realized that October 13th has a lot going on. It's Vincent's birthday, Canadian Thanksgiving Day, U.S. Columbus Day, Hawaii's Discoverers' Day, AND X-Files' creator Chris Carter's birthday! (Ten Thirteen Productions is named after his birthday!) Cool, huh?

43. Although most people have probably noticed it by now, Tseng's age REALLY doesn't make sense to his appearance. He looks like mid-to-late twenties, and yet, he appears when Hojo and co. want to take baby Aeris away! Now let's say that Tseng was at the very, VERY least, 19 or something when Hojo had Gast killed and all. Aeris was 5-years old then, add 17 years, and Tseng's 33! And that's IF he was 19 back then (which is doubtful!) Mystery Tseng's Age!!^_^ What do YOU think?

44. In FFIV, FFV and FFVII, you have lots of praying going on. In FFIV, the people of Mystdia (spelling?) keep praying and bowing. In FFV, you get the people praying in the Wind Shrine, and in FFVII, you get Aerith praying too! Submitted by Kouryuu.)

45. IMHO, Saviour Sephiroth looks like he has a stocking over his head! ^_-(you know, like how thugs and robbers do to hide their identities).

46. Those big bird-creatures that Yupa rides in the movie Kaze no Tani no Naussica (aka Warriors of the Wind in the dubbed version, which really sux), REALLY resemble Chocobos! Rent the movie and see them!

47. After skipping through some Evangelion pages, I realized that how Yuffie's proud and confident personality resembled Asuka, Misato's cheerfulness and upbeat character (which hides her painful memories of her past) is like Tifa, and Shinji's vulnerable nature (and being caught in the middle between two girls) is sorta like Cloud! Although Cloud isn't as whiny as Shinji...^_^ And Rei's slightly mysterious character/nature is a bit like Aeris...but that'd be stretching it a bit.

48. Zack's hair looks like a lion's mane...albeit a black mane...^_^;;

49. Tifa2Cute@aol.com Thinks that Reeve resembles Xanatos from "Gargoyles".

50. Queen Vera Has an Oddity. You never find out Vincent's from! That was annoying me...but I got a clue as to his place of birth... If you have him in your party when talking to Yuffie for the first time, he says that she "looks familiar"... I thought that was weird, because he's probably been in that coffin longer than she's been alive!... So I gots to thinking that maybe he knew her mother or grandmother if he lived in Wutai.. I dunno. It's a wild guess..

51. I think that Cloud and Sephiroth's relationship is the most similar to that of Kamui and Fuuma's (from X). Kamui has that "Devil-may-care" attitude, as does Cloud, Fuuma goes insane and kills everyone (which Sephiroth sorta does), and Kamui wants to save the world only for personal reasons, like Cloud. Plus, their sorta yaoi-type realtionship is similar...

52. I find that the size & shape of Yuffie's and Kaworu Nagisa's (from Neon Genesis Evangelion) mouths are exactly the same, henceforth making them similar to each other...^_^;; This has gotta be the weirdest one yet... 53. Jon Sheetz thinks Sephiroth is a lot like Jesus Christ. "Seph comes back from the dead, just like Christ, seems to put his body into a cross-like position more than once (i.e. right after he stabs Aerith). Also, Christ had twelve disciples, and Sephiroth had twelve black-cloaked followers." He also thinks Barett and Mr. T are alike, as they both say "foo" often.

54. Leilou writes: "OK maybe this is a little sacreligious (spelling?) but Sephiroth's name means the "infininte brought into the fininte," "Timelessness brought into time" or "A God brought into a man." which is what Christ is, God in human form. (I noticed this similarity before I read you page but reading the Jon Sheetz entry I decided to send this in.) Strange huh? I wonder if Square did that on purpose?"

55. Mayu-ROXX notices that Yuffie is a young teen version of B. Orchid from Killer Instinct. They both have a thing for the colour green, have an oriental background, wear headbands; both girls have black hair (but she think's Orchid's hair is longer), and they have their own special mission to go on.

56. Mike Schlagenhauf sez: "I noticed that Yuffie, when she does her little thing after winning, jumping up and down and such, looks a lot like Seung MiNa from another Playstation game, Soulblade. Also, Tifa's victory "dance" looks a lot like one of Chun Li's endings from Street Fighter II." Hm, I never played Soulblade so I dunno, but I'll take Mike's word for it, then.^_^

57. SephFF711 states that one of the Chocobo songs that plays when you're in battle with a Chocobo (near the Chocobo farm or whatever) is very heavily based on the beach song "Wipe Out."

58. Personally, I hear a tiny bit of the song "Miserlou" playing in the very first part of "Electric De Chocobo."

59. Midgar and Nibulheim, the two cities from FFVII, were taken from Norse mythology. In Norse myth, Midgar is Midgard, and was the Land of the first humans, Ask and Embla. Nibulheim is actually Niflheim, and was the cold Land of the Dead.

60. Vicks (Biggs according to the Demo CD), and Wedge, the two sub-characters from FFVII? Their names were taken from two other sub-character pilots in Star Wars.

61. About 90% of boys (in Japan) like Tifa the best. Reasons are: she's kawaii, she's strong, and seems more mature than Aerith.

62. Most girls like Aerith the best because: they like her costume and hairstyle, she's gentle and kind, and she's kinda weird, which kind of makes her stand out (though some people don't like her because of this...)

63. Yuffie's popularity comes from Gamers (game players), because: her cool actions/personality, and the way she handles her Shuriken.

64. In the ending FMV, there's a scene where Tifa, Cloud and Barrett watch the Holy spell battle against the Meteor (their back is facing the viewer). If you look closely, you can tell this scene was horizontally flipped, 'cause the shoulder guard for Cloud is on the opposite side! (the right)

65. When Sephiroth rushes down from above to kill Aerith (the part where he has his Sword out in front of him, ready to strike), his hands are, for some strange reason, bare. He's supposed to have black gloves on, but in that one scene, they've mysteriously disappeared. And then when he rips the Sword out of Aerith, they've reappeared on his hands again.

66. Apparentley, I wasn't the only one. After checking out other Japanese FFVII pages, a lot of people think Yuffie and Vincent make a good couple.^_^

67. Tifa was at first never in the story. She was just suddenley thrown into the game to counter-balance the story between Aerith and Cloud (or something like that). Character designer Tetsuya Nomura (love his art!) was like, "Hey, why don't we kill Aerith and put in Tifa?"^_^;

68. Have you ever noticed that the horse that Odin rides has six legs? This is because is Norse mythology, Odin was given a horse from Loki (the trickster God) named Sleipnir. Sleipnir had eight legs, and was the fastest animal in the world; one fitting for a God.

69. According to Gingasan Hoshino, The dress that Michiru Kaioh wore from the first epsiode of the Sailor Stars series in Sailor Moon, was similar-looking to Aerith's (at least, from the back, he says). He also thinks that Michael J. Fox and Rufus resemble each other, Ray Vecchio from the Canadian show Due South is a dead ringer for Cid, and that the scene from the mega-hit Titanic, where Jack's body is lowered into the water is like the famous scene of Aerith's body being laid into the water after her death.

70. Shium sez: "When you race a River Chocobo, and there's another blue one, the actual Chocobo that Cloud, or whoever, is riding is light blue. The other Chocobo is a darker blue. But on the top where the Chocobo heads are, your Chocobo's head is dark blue, and the other one is lighter blue!"

71. Corey Fellows submits that: "I think that Barrett is much like Mr. T." Actually, someone else already e-mailed me about that too, but he wasn't sending it to me as a submission, so it doesn't really count.

72. Terrance Taylor's opinion on the whole story of FFVII is that is is very similar to that of the Dragonlance chronicles trilogy.

73. In accordance to Starfire's information, Heidegger was, actually, the name of a philosopher (though he doesn't know from when he was around). And Rufus is Latin for red, which explains his hair. Plus, in 'Birth of the God', Starfire hears just a little bit from a very old western song playing

74. And Van Le says Cloud's hair reminds him of a pineapple he once ate (which apparantley was tasty), Vincent's Limit Breaks are like the 'Jekyl and Hyde' thing, plus that fact that he reminds Van Le of a vampire, Cid talks as dirty as he does, Palmer reminds him of that gum-chewing girl Violet from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that became a huge blueberry, and finally, he think that Sephiroth is as sick as Marilyn Manson, though his sword is "cooooool."

75. Yukina1998 takes note that the musical notes in "One Winged Angel" comes from "The Creation" by Joseph Haydn(sp?). The lyrics are from "Carmina Burana" but that was already mentioned.

76. Elemek talks about how big the similarity is between Chrono Trigger and FFVII. "This is probably because they both follow the hero's journey (not sure on this, haven't looked closely enough to be certain), but even some of the characters could have been crossed over. Sephiroth and Vincent could both be Magus, Cloud would be Chrono, although Cloud hase a bit more personality; I guess Lucca could be Yuffie and that Ayla could be Tifa, but those are strechtes. Frog has the identity crisis of Cloud; Nadia/Marle would be Aeris. Also near the end of the game, the hero "dies" in both of them, albeit more literaly in Chronotrigger than in FFVII. And both have an identical equipment system, although Chrono Trigger actually uses armour.

77. CRONO makes an obervation where in Cid's house, despite the fact that Shera also lives with him, there is only one bedroom. CRONO also thinks that Aerith and Belle from Beauty and the Beast resemble each other.

78. "If you think about it, the Turks are like the Men in Black. They are secretive, and travel in groups (most of the time you fight just Reno and Rude). Also, you only see them wearing one type of suit." Submitted by peggi@sprintmail.com.

79. "Well, I think that Cloud is like the guy Zack on Saved By the Bell. Because he has all of the babes, he is very popular, and also uses a lot of smart comments. He also doesnt' always know what to do, so he has to ask Screech, in this case Cloud would ask Cid, (I'm not saying that Cid's a geek)." Submitted by Michael Storvick.

80. Jason voices: "I've noticed that in most RPGs (about 90%), the main character's weapon is a sword or the sword is the main weapon, or the sword is the strongest/best weapon. (Cloud from FFVII, Illumina in FFIII, Crystal in FFII, Crono, The Secret of Mana's Mana Sword, Masamune and such from FFI and other various, etc, etc, etc.)"

81. Cid looks like Bruce Willis, and Vincent looks like Trent Razor to Derek Barnes. It's understandable, though. Bruce Willis and Cid both have that tough-guy, rugged type of look and feel.

82. From the mouth of CdtSky20@aol.com, "The Midgar Zolom in Final Fantasy VII has the same name as a giant snake from Norse mythology, the Midgar Zolom. It was supposed to be one of the monsters that would destroy the world."

83. "I'm suprised no one thought of this, Hojo reminds me of Taiki from Sailor Moon's SailorStars series! o_0; The long brown hair the height (sorta, I'm not sure, I haven't exactly seen his height) o_0. But his overall physical apperance reminds me of him thereof, also the intelligence and such. But i'm not sure that Taiki would go off and experiment on ancients like that o_0." Submitted by Taiki Kou. Well, I guess that hairstyle might seem a bit similar, and other tiny bits here and there, but this one's REALLY stretching it.

84. Kunzite(Malachite) from Sailor Moon resembles Sephiroth. One of my friends had mentioned something like this, but then again, she never submitted this, so Foxfire takes the cake on this one. Foxfire also states that Vincent is alot like "D" from the anime movie Vampire Hunter D. Both have pale skin, long hair, and one weird hand. (D's talks to him, while Vincent's is a metal claw)

85. Kyuuketsuki Miyu sent in a number of submissions. "On the subject of Magic Knight Rayearth, Aerith reminds me of Hikaru as well as Fuu; a combination of both. Fuu has her healing powers and such, and Hikaru fits Aerith's personality! Hikaru is very upbeat, always happy, and wants to have fun. She is also very naive, I think Aeris can also be that way at times too. Her hair also reminds me of Hikaru's a bit...Aeris also has hair that looks like Tatora's. Here's something not many people I know think of... Sephiroth resembles Hotohori from Fushigi Yuugi. Barett has Tasuki's personality: he likes to use profanity a lot, and loves to shoot things (Tasuki is a pyromaniac, but hey, same thing...kinda). Sephiroth bears a strong resemblence to Touga in Shojou Kakumei Utena. They've got the same hair (Touga's is red though), the same personality, and Touga's sword is a lot like Sephiroth's. Only thing is, Utena started after FF7 came out....oh well. An interesting fact here....in Shin Kyuuketsuki Miyu, the enemies are called 'Shinma'. The word means something like a combination of god and vampire. And, one of the shinma's names is 'Cait Sith'. Coincidence...? Maybe, maybe not."

86. "Barret looks like MegaMan or Samus from Metroid (always a character with a gunlike hand). Cloud exactly looks like Future Trunks from DragonBall Z. Especially when he casts a summon spell; the sword on his back and his joined hands, he is a copy from Trunks before he launched his energy ball against Freezer. Cait Sith's giant Moogle seems inspired from FF3 Robot Armor. The Turks are kind of like Queen Beryl's Generals (3 men and a girl) from the Sailor Moon series." Submitted by Endimion.

87. The name of the sword that Cloud uses, Ragnarok, is naturally, adapted from Norse mythology. Ragnarok being the twilight of the Gods, it is a rather appropriate title for a weapon. Also, the other half of the Odin summon is entitled "Gunge Lance", which is incorrect. It was called Gungnir, not Gunge. Submmitted by Maurtania4@aol.com.

88. From Randy Duhon. "...The similarity between Sephiroth and Norman Bates from Psycho. I mean we are talking about two people that are obsessed with and talk to their dead mothers. They even talk the same way: 'Mother this', 'Mother that'."

89. "The thing I noticed goes back to Sephiroth's God complex. I was recently reading some magazines when I spotted a picture. It was of the Mosaic of Christ above the main altar in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington. At the final battle, where Sephiroth becomes a One Winged Angel, much of his body looks very like the mosaic." Submitted by CdtSky@aol.com

90. Garth V. Bishop states that Wedge and Biggs are similar to Kenny from South Park in the way that they make (cameo) appearance in every episode/Final Fantasy series and die in all of them =P.

91. A lot of people have noticed this one too. Cindy Oliver sees how Elena and Aya Brea of Parasite Eve resemble each other very much.

92. Ayperi Silverwolf submits the following: "When I was watching an old 80's martial arts film called Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon. Anyways, there's this lady who owns a dance club called "7th Heaven" and there's this one scene where she talks to a group of teens on the side that she refers to as "The Cloud Crowd". I just thought the unusual similarities were interesting. And later in one scene she asks the hero of the film, a martial artist to help her from being kidnapped, ie. to be her bodyguard, which kind of reminded me of the situation when Aeris asked Cloud to be her bodyguard.^_^"

93. I just realized this recently, but on the 2nd disk, when I returned to Sector 5 in Midgar, there's a young kid on the second floor of a house near Aerith's house (it's a slum shack on the middle-right corner). This kid is none other than Fei from Square's Xenogears!! No, really! He wears the same clothes as Fei, and has that hairstyle too (albeit shorter). Anyone who's played Xenogears before will agree with me.

94. Alex Chao finds that the city of Midgar is much like the dreary setting of the movie Dark City. Both cities never see the light of day and have a gloomy feel to them.

95. From Eli comes this interesting fact: "When I first came across Sephiroth's mother, Lucrecia, I thought they had gotten it from the old philosopher (at least, I think that's what he was) named Lucretius. I later learned that Lucrecia was a woman who was raped by Tarquin, some guy from Rome. "The Rape of Lucrece" is a poem by Shakespeare based on this. I've read it; one of Shakespeare's early works. I suppose it means that Hojo raped Lucrecia for his experimental purposes."

96. Tifa is a lot like Karou from Rurouni Kenshin, says Logick. The two are both strong, independent, and cheerful on the outside, but on the inside they're emotionally fragile, like to be cared for, and considered special. Both of them are masters in a martial art, both are considered tomboyish, and both have strong feelings for the male lead, which they won't admit they have.

97. Elena bears a resemblance to Dana Scully of The X-Files. Not too tall in height, wear dark-coloured suits, and have short haircuts. Submitted by Megan Prime.

98. Also, an interesting fact submitted by Logick, Tifa was originally in the game but not as a major character (kinda like Yuffie and Vincent), Aerith originally had Tifa's personality (and to a certain extent her background as well). But they decided to redesign her (personality wise, to make it more moving when she died) and kill her off, give Tifa Aerith's personality (that's why her looks and personality don't mix) and make her the lead female in the second half of the game. In the end, Aerith was designed after Hinorobu Sakaguchi's (the designer of the game) mother, and Tifa was designed after his wife.

99. Logick (this guy is on a roll^_^) also mentions how Aerith is just like Rei and Kaworu (from Neon Genesis Evangelion) combined. And Cloud's head is like a Chocobo's. *This one has sorta been mentioned, on the Marriage Prospects page. Tifa calls Cloud a Chocobo-head when you say 'yes' to take the treasure from the bird nest in Corel (that's what happens in the Japanese version, but I'm not sure if they kept it in the English version).

100. Nancy McCoy hits the 100th submission!^_^ Her submissions are: Eve of Parasite Eve has the same glowing eyes as Sephiroth does. The two also bear the evil grin. Eve and Jenova are very much alike for obvious reasons, Aya's bangs and hair colour are all like Cloud's (and Aya's hairstyle is very slightly modeled after Cloud's). Plus, Hojo of FFVII and Dr. Klamp of Parasite Eve are dead ringers, in attitude and appearance. And, the LAST PE/FFVII similarity, is that Ultimate Being's third form bears a startling resemblance to Sephiroth in his OWA form. It would make sense; Sephiroth is an Ultimate Being! ^_^

101. When you keep talking to Cloud as he's in his comatose state, he will mumble "......A billion mirror fragments...small...light...taken......Angel's......singing voices...zeno...gias...." No one had any idea what the Hell this meant, until news of Xenogears was released. Also sent in by Nancy McCoy.

102. In City of Angels, all the Angels wear black trench coats, and the main character's name is Seth (Nicholas Cage). Sephiroth wears a black trench coat too, and the name 'Seth', would most definitely be the 'normal' name given to Sephiroth (if he were to have a normal name). Also from Nancy McCoy.

103. Jester feels that Cid (from all the FF series) is very similar to Simon Belmont from the Captain N cartoon show. They both wear goggles, have semi-dirty blonde hair, and wear the same colour clothes.

104. Cloud and Conan (from Conan the Barbarian are alike. They both carry large blades, and have a personal beef with the villain "You killed my mother and father and destroyed my home." (Except in Cloud's case, his dad was already dead before Seph cracked and offed the town). Submitted by Bikke the Pirate.

105. Nickson finds that a red best from a Chinese movie called Stormrider looks like Red XIII.

105. Clyde/P-Chan mentions how Barrett and Daniel Dollis of Parasite Eve are alike. Both are black men with strong builds, have a child to take care of, and are caught in the dilemma of taking care of his kid or to do his job and serve for the world. And FFVII and FFVI have scattered tidbits that are alike; a main character who is a soldier and has a darkened past (Cloud/Terra), has mysterious powers, battles an evil empire in a rebel group, and end up facing a genetically altered General who is bent on world destruction and becoming a God. Also, Vincent (FFVII) and Shadow (FFVI) are similar.

106. A number of Star Wars similarities sent in from Gary Stewart. First, both FFVII and Star Wars present a rebellion against an empire, a badass villain dressed in black, a protagonist who has a past connection to the villain, a mystical character with special powers who dies early on (Obi-Wan and Aerith) by the hands of the main villain. There is also a mercenary-ish character who has a Devil-may-care attitude (Hans Solo and Cloud),

107. Jimmie K. Lew sends a submission saying that the Holy spell resembles Goku and Krillin's (of Dragonball fame) Kamaya-maya attack. ***Do NOT send emails to me complaining about spelling errors if there are any; I just wrote the names from the submission. I don't watch Dragonball, so I wouldn't know anything about how to spell the characters' names.

108. Suri Junin points out how Tifa and Sabin/Mash (FFVI or FFIII in US release) both use gloves as weapons and are martial arts fighters.

109. Christopher Neumann Ruud submits the similarities between FFVII and the Fifth Element movie. Both have a reluctant protagonist, a not-exactly-human-but-still-human-in-a-way lead female character who knows about a special mission she must execute and acts pure and innocent.

110. Jenova appears like an easy-to-kill Imp from Doom. Submitted by Strider489@aol.com.

111. The Weapons all have jewel names (except for Ultima). If you think about it, this makes sense. The Weapons all emerged from the core of the planet, specially created by the planet. And jewels such as the ruby, emerald, sapphire and diamond ARE marvels created by the earth, so it seems fitting for them to have these names. This submission was brought on by Suri Junin. Kudos.

112. Bartholomew Fatima points out how Cid and Dennis Leary are almost like twins for their smoking habit, their views on life, and how they frequently swear.

113. The brother of Edea Moogle says that the Road Warrior movie has the same basic story as FFVII, and Cloud is like the character Mad Max from the same film. I wouldn't know...

114. Biggs in FFVII is like Ryu from the famous Street Fighter series. Both are wearing red hachimakis (headbands), have dark hair, and are fighters (Biggs is to a lesser extent, though). And both are aqquaintances with a blonde man (Ryu's is Ken, Biggs' is Cloud). Submitted by Zero Y.

115. hangmansdrop@hotmail.com thinks about how Sephiroth and Aerith are so similar to each other (the hairstyle, the eyes, both are not quite human, and have special powers).

116. Maybe not everyone noticed this, but if you come to the Gold Saucer again and again, you can sometimes see this guy hiding in the shadows of the building who'll exchange your gil into GP (but it's 100 gil for 1 GP; what a gyp).

117. The PC version of Final Fantasy VII doesn't have that secret Stamina boost for the Chocobo race (for PSX, push R1 and L1 at the same time, I think), so there's almost no way of beating that damn Chocobo Jockey and his black Chocobo Teioh (Teioh means 'Emperor' in Japanese).

119. Hojo is like Dr. Nasukan from Saga Frontier for their evilness and scientific insanity. Submitted by Rayvind.

120. Daniel Jackson states the fact that the plate-crashing incident in Midgar was very reminiscent of the plot in Total Recall where the President tries to kill the slum population to put down the resistance.

121. Kefka of FFVI (FFIII in English version) and Sephiroth are akin to each other in the way where they wish to become Gods and rule the world. Also, they both have long hair and look slightly feminine in the final boss fight, and have attacks that relate to angels. Submitted by Majikkrd1@aol.com.
