Where's MW going to go next?
You may have heard that FASA Interactive was bought by Microsoft. Well, here's the story.
On January 7, 1999, Microsoft Corp. announced that they acquired FASA Interactive Technologies Inc. As a result, Microsoft gained rights to the BattleTech property, which includes one of the most successful franchises in the computer gaming industry, MechWarrior, and it's real-time strategy extension, MechCommander. MechWarrior 2 and it's related add-ons have accounted for more than $70 million in sales.
FASA Interactive's development staff will be integrated into Microsoft's product development teams in Redmond, where they'll continue working on upcoming titles including MechWarrior 4 and MechCommander 2.
This is not expected to affect MechWarrior 3.
Info from Microsoft.com's story.
It seems like they're moving the MechWarrior name everywhere! First, MechWarrior 3 comes out with a different publisher. Microprose instead of Activision. Even Zipper Interactive had a part in MW3. So for MW3, it's Microprose, FASA, and Zipper Interactive. Then Microsoft bought FASA, and is working on MW4! I'm not sure if Zipper will help in MW4, but the way Microprose was talking about them in the production of MW3, they probably will. So for MW4, it's Microprose, Microsoft, and maybe Zipper. They're just tossing MechWarrior all around. Who will catch it next?
