Vicar Street Gig Review
Play list
Gig Review
Retro Generation Stand effectively stepped up a level with new maturity in there music just itching to be exposed to the world. An array of new songs where included on the night and a ridiculously good version of "Under pressure". Play the David bowie/Queen version and then listen to Stand, I dare you to find any faults! The songs to the left was the original play list, throw in a few careful adjustments and you have an extremely entertaining night. As if to signal to the crowd that this was going to be a rocking night, "Retro Generation" got everyone moving almost instantly and with some clever mixing we where into "Lift". Cue the chance for Neil to actually say a few words! I believe Neil could honestly already be a millionaire if he had a pound for every time he has said "Thanks a lot for coming along". Our first taste of a new song in "wake me" followed and this brought us into what can only be said as a very emotional performance of "Laying Low". Neil called for every light in the house to be switched off towards the end of this song, in perfect darkness lighters where lit and all I could hear was Neil's voice. I believe you would find it very hard to hear and feel another song or performance like this that literally makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Cue "Little Sweet Lucifer" and this I feel was the best new song performed on the night. Hints of U2 rang through and this song I hope is a future single. "Be Global" was described as a song about the travels they have had to make in the last year and the good times they have had in this time, very poignant. A standing ovation followed for "Under Pressure" and I do believe Neil broke the windows in the adjoining bar with the decibel level reached at certain points in this song. "Hoper" and "Anorak" are my two favorite songs at the moment sung by Alan and Neil respectively, this hasn't changed for the time being but I was really impressed with all the new songs performed on the night. Neil's voice sounded it's strongest it has been and Alan should have dressed up as David Bowie to complete his imitation which was breathtaking. This should be no surprise to myself as I have seen Stand in the past performing such epics as "Shine on you Crazy Diamond". Dave performed like someone who was born with a guitar and Karl is the most solid drummer I have seen in the last few years. Neil recently said that the gig in the Temple Theatre was probably one of the best they felt they have done, I wonder if he can argue with adding this one to his list? "Pinks and Blues" appeared to finish off the night but due to chanting for more aplenty they came back out and eventually finished with "Under Pressure" to a standing ovation.
Lift Breathing But There's No Air Wake Me (New song) Laying Low Little Sweet Lucifer (New song) Big Bold Moves Hoper Be Global (New song) Under Pressure (Cover) Anorak Zero Zero (New song) Lighthouse Stairs Questions Beautiful Grey (New song) Times Will change Pinks and Blues It's not Unusual (Cover) Hang Me

Thursday 2nd -- Small (some might say boring - ed) news regarding a new Domain name. We currently have the address http://go.to/stand, having looked into the pricing for a new domain name which will hopefully be www.stand.ie, the site will go under a bit of work to coincide with this and we also want to offer to feature of a mailing list for any news updates as they happen. Improved options for purchasing online are also in the pipeline but these are at an early stage.
Wednesday 1st -- Stand Perform in Vicar Street (Dublin) on Friday 10th December. This is a tremendous venue and tickets are available via Ticketmaster for only £7.50. There are two other bands performing and there is a DJ set on afterwards until 2:30am. It should be a great night, Stand last performed there for the launch of Questions. This was undoubtedly one of the best Stand Gigs.

Editors Comment "Stand are now in America getting ready for their tour. Sadly this means they are not performing in Ireland for a couple of weeks, on the other hand this is an excellent opportunity for them. Standing Tall -- Hot-Press Review
Stand are the vanguard of a new generation of Irish bands who don't believe in hanging about waiting for somebody else to give them the green light. Consequently they've already notched up two Irish chart hits on their own label, both included here. Now, in Correspondent, they have produced an album of depth and polish that belies the fact that this is their debut.
This snappy Dublin Foursome have the good sense to know that less is often more, and some of the highlights on this album are the result of an instinctive simplicity, while the hit singles "Breathing But There's No Air" and "Questions" would adorn the catalogue of more vaunted bands.
"Don't Try Wake Me Tonight" has the aching melancholy that brings the moody blues to mind and "Lighthouse Stairs" craftily blends a slow lemmonesque rhythm with a Nick Cave Vocal. "Retro Generation" turns up the heat with some rugged playing, while both "Lift" and "Laying Low" are underpinned by sparkling guitar figures.
Unfortunately, the bluster of "This Trusting Is Over" delivers very little and "Weapons" and "Paradise Parade" pale in the shade of classier tracks. But if the album wimps out occasionally, "Correspondent" still serves as a stunning debut in any reporters book.
Editors comment: "They received a mark of 10/12 which is there second highest mark and classes the album as Exciting".
Tuesday 27th -- Editors Comment "Another sample from the Questions single has been added, it's called The Ears Have Walls"
Editors comment: "The Stand Web page now has a new temporary Address. This is http://go.to/stand"
Friday 23rd --- Stand Perform in the Bagott Inn pub in Dublin.
Baggot inn Gig Review
Playlist
Gig Review
Touch Me (The Doors) Stand performed a mixture of covers and original songs to a lively crowd on Friday. If you are unfamiliar with the Baggot inn it is a small and intimate venue and is located on Baggot street in Dublin. A very good performance by Stand and it was great to hear Anorak. In case you don't know Anorak is a recently written song which is undoubtedly one of their best songs ever written. Anorak and another new song Hoper are sung by Neil and Alan respectively. Hoper was not performed but if these two songs are a sign of things to come then the future of Stand is a healthy one. Once they had the crowd won over Neil began his wanderings into the crowd with a rendition of It's Not Unusual. Song 2 filled what was left of an already packed dance floor and Alan sung a song that Neil describes as "our only song about sex" which is Big Bold Moves. By the time this had been done the crowd where won over and Stand had done again something they have done during the last few years and that is to totally win a venue over. I believe they have already been asked back to perform here. If anybody was at the gig mail us with a review. Anorak (Original) Polygraphic (Original) Man on the moon (R.E.M) Hang Me (Original, This is one of the best songs on the album) Questions (Original, second single) It's not Unusual (Tom Jones) Laying Low (Original) Song 2 (Blur) Retro Generation (Original, Recently released third single) Design for Life (Manic street Preachers) Big Bold moves (Original)
