Without doubt, no other DJ had such a profound influence on the development of reggae as Ewart Beckfort, who under the alias of U Roy, spearheaded a musical revolution in the seventies, which forever changed the sound and style of Jamaican music. U Roy's debut single "Wake the town" (produced by Duke Reid) caused a sensation in Jamaica. In the mid-'70s U Roy achieved international recognition with a number of albums produced by "Prince" Tony Robinson. After retiring from recording, he made his comeback in the '90s with the "True born African" album, produced by Mad Professor.
