THE CHANTAYS
The Chantays, a teenage group from Santa Ana, had one of the biggest and best instrumental surf hits, Pipeline (12/62), so named after members saw a Bruce Brown film, for it was previously named, "Liberty's Whip", inspired by the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance".  Pipeline, the Chantays only hit, reached #4 on the Billboard charts May '63 selling over a million copies. Having the first surf record to chart in England, reaching #16 (6/63), the Chantays became the first to tour overseas as well. A Chantays original Tragic Wind (63) was named after high tide waves, which whip out surfers. Blunderbuss (63) is a type of gun. Their songs feature; rumbling bass,  Fender electric keyboards, and the premier Fender Reverb Unit drenching the guitar in sweet water. They reformed see New Surf Bands page.
Pipeline was released in early 1963 Their followup single Monsoon is also included on the CD as a bonus.
