****Doors News:... Fatboy slim has sampled Jim Morrison for his new single called "Sunset(Bird of prey)" from Morrison's poetry album "an american prayer".Its expected to be released in october******
The doors is my nr1 band in the world.I adore them.I guess I was doomed to.I fell in love the moment I heard the first lines of "Riders on the storm" with that smooth vox organ in the background, the eerie guitar playing from Robby Krieger and John Densmore complimenting the words of Jim Morrison with his drum blasts.
Why do I like doors so much?
they had a unique sound, very dynamic. They had their roots from blues and jazz music. And that blending with rock'n roll is just perfect.
When other bands of their era(the late 60's early 70's) have folded the doors have just kept on surviving.
Ofcourse their lead singer Jim Morrison caused alot of stir with his sometimes rebellion behavior. But I think their music holds up because of three great musicians and the last centuries greatest electric poet.
Because that is what Jim was.A poet.A very sensitive soul hurt in his childhood.Got away from his family and had this great gift of writing.
He wrote poetry since he was in elementary school. And at one period of his life he just started writing songs.Him and his friend from UCLA film school,Ray Manzarek created The Doors together with Guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore.
Two years later they were stars. From then on they created a fantastic story about a true legendary group.
Oliver Stone made a movie in 1991 about the doors with val kilmer playing Jim.Alot of people have their views on the doors from seeing this movie. What I can say about this movie is that as a hollywood production it shows a rockband living the "sex drugs and rock'n roll" mentality. This is far from the real story about the doors.Jim was NOT a drug addict! I admit he had an alcoholic problem, and he was not a stupid sexfreak like the movie wants to say he was.The truth is that Jim stopped to experiment with drugs by 1969.Then alcohole took over completely.
This was a time when alcoholism didnt have any treatment offers at all. Thanks to his alcohole abuse he ruined alot of doors shows by showing up completely drunk and ruining their performances.
The way I see it Jim couldnt handle the fame, and he went through several depressions and drinking was his way out...every time.
After the doors finished their sixth and last album together "L.A woman" wich is a great album and comeback he left for paris with pamela courson(his girlfriend and love of his life)
He died there july 3'rd 1971.The cause of death is unknown. The death certificate says nothing else but "heart attack"
but why would he suffer a heart attack at the age of 27?.The rumors started about Jim faking his own death, wich isnt very likely. My theory is that he came home late one night after a bar round in paris. He was drunk and pamela was asleep. He took some heroine from pamela(pamela was more of a drug addict than Jim ever was)to try it one first and last time.Drunk as he was he took the heroine went to the bathtub, and that was it,goodbye.
We will never know for sure...But his memory lives on and the music of the doors holds up his memory.
He is buried at le pere lachaise graveyard in paris together with great people like oscar wilde, edith piaf, moliere etc.His grave is a tourist attraction and a must-be place for fans.
I will be there july 3'rd next year for the 30'th anniversary of his death.
