Jean's & Dave's Most Recent
Ohio Adventure
On February 18, 2001, we loaded up the Windstar with luggage, snacks, and Dave's musical equipment and headed off with our dog Boris for the Buckeye State. Dave was scheduled to spend a week in Sandusky with Queen Bey, while I expected to spend some good quality time with my mom and my brothers and sisters. We had a great trip and enjoyed seeing old friends and making some new ones!

First stop: Columbus for a too-brief visit with our good friend Mike. Mike treated us to wonderful pizza and brought us up to date on all the goings-on in his life. Dave was delighted with the loan of an antenna tuner for his new radio and a couple of video tapes -- "This Island Earth" and "Conquest of Space." (You can see they're both a bit off the edge...) |
| On Tuesday, just before Dave had to leave to pick up Queen Bey at the airport, we were treated to a visit from my old chum Barb. We used to get into trouble constantly. Barb's parents called us Lucy and Ethel. Here we are with my mother in the middle. |

One of the great unexpected pleasures of the trip was meeting Doyt and Lois Echelberger. Now... Let's see if I can get this straight: Doyt's father was the brother of the husband of Dave's mother's sister. How's that for a relationship!
Doyt and Lois live in a lovely cottage on the shore of Lake Erie with their dog Cyka (pronounced SOO' ka -- it's Cyrillic, donchaknow) who bears an uncanny resemblance to Boris in every respect except disposition. She was a lovely and friendly pooch. Boris, on the other hand... Well, we won't go into that!

Lois and Doyt invited Dave to dinner during his stay in Sandusky. Left: Lois dishes up some scrumptious salmon with sweet potatoes and veggies. Above: Doyt relaxes after dinner. |
Lois poses with two of her dolls that she has had since childhood. Of course, Dave was taken by the fact that Lois has an air-cooled VW Westfalia camper (like the one we had when we first were married), and her favorite tv show is "Stargate."
She and Doyt love to dance and spend a lot of time tripping the light fantastic. At one time, they were state champion polka dancers in Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio. We got to watch a video tape of their competition, and WERE WE IMPRESSED!!! |

After Dave's Friday concert, we headed to a local eatery for coffee and ice cream.
Left to right: Me, Dave, Lois and Doyt, and Ken and Cheryl Lucas.
Ken is a friend of Dave's from his grade school days and came all the way from Lima, Ohio, for the performance.
After all too brief a stay, we loaded up and headed west to our home in Shawnee.
As we neared Kansas City, we were treated to a beautiful sunset.
Till next time, then, friends!
