"At Last, On Time" -- "Weepin' Willie" Robinson and friends, Susan Tedeschi & Mighty Sam McClain. Having just negotiated a record deal with Acoustic Sounds, McClain Management is proud to introduce "Weepin' Willie" Robinson as their newest artist. At age 73, this will be "Weepin' Willie's" first release with a record label. It makes us, at McClain Management, very happy to be a part of offering his music to the world, something Willie had almost ruled out. On two separate occasions, nearly a year apart, Willie met Sam McClain at the House of Blues, Cambridge, MA., with the same plea, "I gotta make me a CD before I die." A dream for Sam McClain has always
been to be able to help another "soul survivor". With the aid of Joe Harley, Sam's own producer, two people's dreams will be realized. "Weepin Willie", Susan Tedeschi and Mighty Sam McClain are set to record at Acoustic Sounds, a dedicated blues label in Salina, KS., in mid-December.
The CD title is befitting, "At Last, On Time."
Born July 6, 1926 in Atlanta, Willie's youth was spent working as a migrant farm laborer. After serving in the US Army, he went to work in Trenton, NJ, as master of ceremonies at a club often frequented by big named blues acts. It was here that he received inspiration, and got some advise, from legendary B.B. King (among others) on music presentation. He now resides near Boston, MA, where he performs regularly. The Boston Phoenix says "he ascends to an
elevated emotional plane." The Boston Blues Society named him "Artist of the Month" once in 1998. With this sort of response, thus far, reviews of his upcoming release are sure to be good.
McClain Management, owned and operated by Sam McClain, has also entered into agreement with Oscar Toney, Jr., a legendary soul/gospel vocalist, who is resurfacing with his upcoming CD on the Ichiban label. Oscar Toney's career in the late sixties blossomed with the million selling hit, "Your Precious Love." Sam was also instrumental to Oscar then, by referring him to the producer who recorded the hit. Thirty years have passed and McClain Management is proud to provide support for Oscar Toney, Jr.---a great voice silent for too long !
McClain Management introduces Willie, Sam, and Oscar in "Soul Survivors Revue," a nostalgic trio of legendary soul/r&b, blues, and gospel artists. Area fans will have the first opportunity to see each of these "soul survivors" perform at the House of Blues, Cambridge MA (617-491-2100) on December 4, 1998. We look forward to sharing this evening with friends and fans of Mighty Sam McClain as he continues to include us in his journey, fulfilling his personal promise to reach out and help under-recognized talent, with honesty and integrity. We also encourage media, promoters, and talent buyers to attend.
A new voice and sound has also been included in our line-up. That of Vermont based guitarist Dave Keller. The Dave Keller Blues Band brings driving blues, deep vocal conviction, and a soulful harp to his self penned CD, "FAITH" on Tastee Tone Records.
