Another Japanese hucard game. This one I got with
'KungFu' and another (which I have yet to work out what it is called -
yes I have (summer 98) - it's called 'Energy', and I've done a small review)
- I paid £5 (UK) for all 3 of them. Not too bad, even though they
are loose.
War of the Dead is an overhead adventure game, much like a (very) early
'Final Fantasy' or such like. I have no idea of the plot - since I cannot
read Japanese (it's probably to do with some near apocalyptic future...).
You wander around a very bland 2d map, occasionally finding desolate buildings
which you can enter and 'talk' to the inhabitants (in Japanese, of course).
Sometimes, both in the map area, and in buildings, the screen will
fade, and you will be faced with a basic
side-scrolling platform level in which you, as the heroine, must destroy
all of the nasties.
You have an inventory of items, which you can access in the overhead
areas. A word of advice, choose the pistol as your weapon before moving
off anywhere; the knife is hard to use, but beware - you can run out of
bullets if you are trigger happy.
There are health and (magic or psi energy?) upgrades available - which
you can get to increase your level.
War of the Dead has very basic graphics and average sound, it
is more like a NES game than a PC-Engine title. I suppose if you can get
it for as little as I did, then it would be worth it.
Otherwise - and if you cannot understand Japanese - then stay away
(is there a US version?).
There is no TG mailing list review for this game. |
