When The Girls first arrived I began purchasing biscuits for their treats. This was okay as far as it went but I soon noticed the biscuits were getting expensive (could be I was giving too many...???) and decided to try my hand at making them myself.
The first couple of attempts were ... interesting! LOL I started with using a peanut butter jar as a cookie cutter. Buffy loved 'em! No wonder! They were huge cookies! LOL
After much experimenting, I finally came up with two perfect sizes - 1" squares and 1/4" squares. The 1/4" squares are definitely more labor intensive, but you get a mess of tiny treats that are perfect for training!

Dry Ingredients:
1-2/3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
1/2 cup Cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/8 tablespoon baking powder
Optional:
1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal
|
Wet Ingredients:
1 cup peanut butter
3/4 cup milk
1 egg
|
Procedure: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
1. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.
2. In another bowl, blend wet ingredients until smooth.
3. Blend both mixtures together.
4. Place dough onto a floured surface and knead.
5. Roll dough out to 1/4" thick.
6. Cut into 1" squares (or 1/4" squares for tiny treats) and
place 1/2" to 1" apart on ungreased baking sheets.
7. Bake 25 minutes until light golden brown.
Your Fur Kids will get about three dozen tasty, crunchy 1" cookies and about six dozen 1/4" cookies.
Note: My "antique" stove requires that I bake for 12 minutes then turn the cookies over and bake an additional 12 minutes, otherwise, the cookies burn on the bottom.
A time saver ~~~
Line the cookie sheets with aluminum foil.
