The first scene opens on a graveyard, focusing on a grave. The camera lowers to the freshly moved dirt, and a hand reaches out. The hand is quickly followed by a body, as a new vampire rises. The vampire is greeted by Willow, Oz, and Xander as they try unsuccessfully to stake it. Oz throws a stake at the escaping vampire, but can't throw and it hits the ground in front of him. They talk about Buffy, and the approaching first day of school tomorrow. Willow ends the scene saying that she wishes she knew were Buffy is. Buffy stands on a beach, staring out over the ocean. Angel arrives and puts his hands around her waist, saying "I'll never leave, even if you kill me.". Buffy wakes up from her nightmare, and looks out the window. The view is a trouble part of a city, with a police car racing by. THEME SONG - All new, the best so far! Seth Green (Oz) has been added to the list of regular characters. Buffy is waitrising in a cafe, where she sees a young couple. The young girl asks if she knows Buffy, but Buffy says no. She leaves the cafe saying that she's not feeling well. The scene switches to the Sunnydale Library, where it's full with new students. Giles and Willow talk about their unsuccessful vampire hunting, and not getting killed. Willow meets Cordillia, and they talk about the summer. Cordillia rants on about Xander, worried that he forgot about her and doesn't like her any more. She sees Oz in the school, and asks what's he's doing there. He didn't graduate last summer, and skipped summer school to be with her. They run into Xander, who rants on about how Cordillia must have forgotten about him, and doesn't like him anymore. They football jock (the guy Xander had the conversation with last year) is talking about football to another guy, casually commenting that they might win this year if they don't get so many mysterious deaths again. Xander and Cordillia finally meet, and talk awkwardly before running away from each other. Buffy walks down the street of her city, depressed. Giles anxiously leaves the Library, telling Willow that a friend of his from Oakland saw a girl killing vampires, and he goes to catch a flight. The girl from the Cafe runs up to Buffy as she walks down the street, and calls her by her real name, not Anne. She says that she recognized Buffy, since she's the main girl from the episode where Buffy's old friend (whom she had a crush in at their old school) tries to get turned into a vampire with his cult, by offering Buffy to Spike. She says that she's changed her name to Lily, and thanks Buffy for saving her back then. They talk when a man pushes between them, saying "I'm no one." The man walks out into the street, and stops before a speeding car. Buffy pushes him out of the way, but is hit by the car. The same scene, with a crowd standing over Buffy. She stands up, saying that she's fine, and runs away. She runs into a guy who's carrying pamphlets for a family home, and asks her to go. She refuses. The scene shows pictures of homeless teens living their lives in the city, with a music voice-over that switched to a band playing "Find my way" at the Bronze. Xander rambles on about how Buffy's going out with everyone now, and laughing about him, rambling on. Willow comforts him, and Oz arrives. They talk about their vamping, Xander says "We need....", and Cordillia walks into the Bronze with Xander looking at her and saying "Bait." At the Buffy residence Mrs. Summers opens the door to let Giles in, who says that his lead for Buffy was false, and that there were no vampires only teens dressed badly. They talk about Buffy, and Giles tells Joyce not to blame herself. She replies saying that she doesn't, she blames him and accuses him of taking her daughter away from her behind her back. In the Cafe Buffy works, and Lily arrives. She says that Ricki is missing, and asks for Buffy's help. Buffy agrees to help reluctantly. They go to the blood bank, and ask if Ricki's there. The lady says no, and gives them an odd look as they leave. Buffy searches around for Ricki, and finally finds an old man dead, but he has the same tattoo Ricki had. Buffy tells Lily that Ricki is dead after growing old, and Lily accuses her of bringing this evil with her to this city. Buffy says that it's not a vampire, since vamps don't make people grow old. Lily leaves in a storm, and meets the pamphlet guy from before, who says that he knows Ricki and takes her to the Family Home. Meanwhile Buffy breaks into the blood bank, having found her old heroine role again. She fins a record of Ricki saying "Candidate", and is caught by the lady she met there before. She asks what it means, and the lady says that she only gives 'them' the names of the healthy ones. Buffy asks who 'they' are. In the Family Home Lily goes to the "cleansing" to clear her sins. In the Cemetery Cordillia complains about being the bait, while Oz makes sure that "Everybody's packing" (stakes and crosses, that is). As Xander and Cordillia argue again, a vamp sneaks up behind Willow. At the home Lily and the pamphlet man (Ken) are in a room where the man says the water will help her. Buffy is at the door, and claims that she wants to get rid of her sins of sex, and loud music. She stops saying that she sucks at being undercover, and bursts through the door. In the room with Lily, Lily reaches for the liquid as Buffy enters. Ken tries to push her out, but Lily is sucked under. She fights Ken, and both fall into the liquid, which is a portal. They are in another room, with Ken, who's face mask has fallen off to reveal him as a demon. They try to run away, but become stuck on a ledge above a factory, where humans are forced to work by demon overseers. Ken knocks out Buffy, In the graveyard Cordillia and Xander continue to argue, when Willow screams. Oz tries to knock the vamp off, but fails. Xander grabs the vamp and tries to stake him, and Cordillia pushes the vamp onto Xander as the three of them fall over. The vamp lands on the stick, turns to dust, leaving Cordiallia lying on top of Xander. The two immediately begin kissing passionately. Buffy and Lily are trapped in a cell in the dimension, with a human corpse. Ken says that they're in hell, and that Ricki forgot all about Lily after a few years. He claims that 100 years pass in their dimension, while only a day passes on Earth, which is why Ricky and others aged so quickly. They chose Lily because no one would miss her, and Buffy wasn't, but she got her wish to run away where no one could find her. A door opens and humans including Buffy and Lily stand before a demon, who asks them who they are. They say they are no one, but Buffy tells him that she is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and fights him. She fights others, and the group hides. She tells Lily that when she distracts the guards, she's to lead the people out of there. And alarm goes off, and Buffy runs with demons on her tail. She fights them, as Lily leads the people out. Ken is distressed, claiming that humans can't fight back. He runs after Lily, and takes her hostage. Meanwhile Buffy keeps fighting until she sees Lily being held hostage, and gives up. The demon lets go of Lily, who pushes him off a ledge. Buffy fights the demons again, and climbs a chain to the platform where Lily and her escape is. They run down a passage to the portal, and Buffy lifts up a gate for them. As she passes through the demon pushes her, knocking her through but not himself. The gate comes down and sticks in his feet. Buffy cuts off his head, and they leave through the portal. The portal suddenly disappears behind them. In Buffy's room in the city, she prepares to leave Lily alone. She gives Lily her old job, and identity, and promises to call. Lily asks if she can be Anne. In the Summer residence, the doorbell rings and Joyce goes to answer it. Waiting at the door is Buffy. Mother and daughter stare at each other for a minute, then hug. Third Season Premiere in which Buffy will return from LA where she has been living under the name of "Anne." This episode will deal with homelessness and it is rumored to have scenes in homeless shelters. Buffy has been trying to escape her duty as the Slayer, but trouble has continued to follow her. Meanwhile, back in Sunnydale, Xander, Willow, Cordy and Oz have been trying to kill demons in her absence, which will lead to some rather humorous scenes. | |
