Sitting alone in the bar reflecting somberly over the circumstances of the 'Sauron
Raid,' as it is now officially called, and your involvement, it occurs to you that
you've been here for over an hour and haven't had anything to eat or drink beyond
stale chips and soda water. You head to the bar, interested in determining
whether the Nexus Station Manager's statement about free drinks, forever, courtesy of
the Sauron Mercenary Guild, is true. Now in the middle of your drink, the earth shudders.
Violently. You get up and it shudders again, knocking you flat. Looking out the
window, you can make out a large gray brick-like object the size of a twenty-meter
cargo container, descending.
Pale v1.9--Estimated 14 August 1999
1. Pale DD, Pale Patrol Cruiser, Pale Frigate, Hunter Redwing, and
Rebel Manta now have new graphics.
2. The Pale DD is now 20Mcr (to reflect costs of state-of-the-art
drive system). The Patrol Cruiser is now 15Mcr (to reflect
capability relative to the 10Mcr Kestrel). The Pale Frigate is now
18Mcr (to reflect the additional fighters I gave it in this update).
The Hunter Redwing is now 1Mcr (to reflect size and capability).
3. The Ore-Hauler is now 2.8Mcr. The Container ship is now 2.5Mcr.
The Secure Transport is now 2.8 Mcr. These are a bit low, but I'd
like the player to have the opportunity to trade if he/she wants to
using mega-freighters in the early game. The standard bulk
freighter is 1.18 Mcr, so it's not too big a cheat. =)
4. I tweaked accelerations across the board on most ships, especially
large transports, cruisers, and some of the more responsive
military-grade warships.
5. Slowed down the acceleration on the Confed cruiser to the original
EV specification. More balanced now against the Rebel cruiser.
6. The Confed frigate now has a turn of 2, not 3. It is now more
balanced against the Rebel DD.
7. The cruiser-grade heavy swivel neutron cannon has a slower rate
of fire now (increased repetition by 4).
8. The mod-Rebel Cruiser's primary armament has been changed to 4
cruiser-grade swivel plasma cannons. It'll kill a Confed cruiser
now, but it's not the equal of a mod-Confed cruiser.
9. Didn't touch the SDB at all, but I was thinking about it. 5Mcr is
a little low for the ship, relative to its capabilities. I was
considering making it closer to the kestrel in cost due to everything
I'm hearing on the EV Board about it being the best ship in the
early- to mid-game. I didn't do it, though, because 5Mcr is about
all the player's going to have by the time he gets to the infamous
'Wight' mission. Hope you like the legal semi-cheat. =)
10. Alien cruiser shield regeneration has been changed to 195.
Original releases had it at 240, and it was a little too slow. The
v1.8.1 updater changed it to 140, and it was a little too fast.
11. Most fighter bay launch velocities have been standardized to
'200'. Some were just a little too fast. Heavy fighter launch bay
repetition rates have been standardized to '100'. There is some
minor variation. Figure a 10 point delta if the heavy fighter is
compact or the bay is over-large to accommodate rapid launch.
13. The descriptions for the Pale Patrol Cruiser and Pale Frigate
have changed. The ships have been slightly modified, too. Each
carries 50 percent more fighters and armaments have been modified
slightly.
