Background: Ambition is a good thing, but it can go too far.
Case in point the man we today know as the Supreme Snake. Originally a used care salesman from Cleveland, he joined the Nazi Killer Sex Death Hate in 1960. Over the next four years, he rose quickly through the NKSDH's ranks, reaching the coveted position of North American East Coast Commander by 1964. How he rose so quickly is a mystery; it is suspected that it wasn't entirely on his own merits.
In July 1964, he shook the NKSDH by taking the East Coast branch and setting it up as his own criminal organisation. Re-naming the branch SNAKE, he announced in no uncertain terms his intentions to take over the world and make himself its ruler. This obviously clashed wit the NKSDH's plans for building a thousand-year Reich with them ruling it. However, the Big Aryan Guy claimed that SNAKE would not last. It would never achieve the popularity of its parent organisation, and would wither and die within a decade. He decided not to waste precious troops and resources on forcing SNAKE back into the fold, rather he decided to let the inevitable happen and concentrate on taking over the world.
During the 60s and 70s, SNAKE grew dramatically. Initially only having bases on the East Coast of the United States it spread across the country and eventually the world. SNAKE actively recruited from the criminal underworld. Unlike the NKSDH, there was no discrimination on the basis of race, religion or political beliefs. All you needed to join SNAKE was the motivation to do Bad Things to aid in world domination.
At first, SNAKE tried to remain entirely secret. However, a botched attack on the UN In 1967 revealed the organisation's existence to the outside world. The Supreme Snake realised that keeping his organisation a secret after that would be futile. Rather, he decided to increase SNAKE's forces and operations, now that they no longer bounded by the desire to hide their existence from the outside world. By the late 70s, SNAKE had eclipsed its predecessor in size, scope and achievements. SNAKE seemed to be almost unstoppable. Almost.
The biggest obstacles SNAKE's agents faced in their operations were Superheroes. The average agent was no match for a single Superhero. In fact, a "typical" hero could usually take on a whole five-man squad of SNAKE agents and win. Time and time again their best laid plans had been thwarted by the intervention of superhero teams. One of their worst failures had lead to the formation of the Grogginghatten Four, considered to be SNAKE's greatest enemies. Efforts to re-equip their troopers with more powerful weapons and armour were only a partial success; the new equipment was heavy and unreliable, and more of a hindrance than a help. Rather than admitting defeat, the Supreme Snake decided that SNAKE needed its own superhumans.
SNAKE's supervillain program was launched in 1975. Numerous supervillains were recruited on either a part-time or full time basis to join SNAKE's ranks. However, they were not enough. SNAKE scientists devised a number of bizarre experimental procedures by which they hoped to create superhumans. Sometimes they worked, Sometimes they didn't. Sometimes the test victims... er... subjects gained super powers. Sometimes they died; sometimes they wound up funny-looking; but most of the time, they wound up really funny looking. And dead. However, by the end of 1975, SNAKE had a small group of paranormal agents, including Anolis, Gila Monster, Rattlesnake, Uncle Bob and Otto The Rat.
SNAKE's second big advancement during the 1970s was their alliance with EvilCorp. The mammoth company provided SNAKE with sophisticated weapons and armour technology for its agents. In addition, they created a number of high-technology vehicles for their armies. At last, SNAKE agents had the equipment they needed to take on a superhero and stand a slight chance of winning.
The biggest advance made by SNAKE in the 70's came in 1977. Using some clever political manipulation, SNAKE had its Caribbean island base declared an independent nation and given full recognition by the UN. This gave SNAKE an effectively untouchable base of operations form which they could run their campaign of wold domination. SNAKE Had it good. Things didn't last. In 1987, the Supreme Snake was seemingly assassinated by Gila Monster, who then took control of the organisation. His first act was to drastically increase funding to the Superhuman division, while cutting back on conventional troops and forces. Needless to say, This didn't go down too well with many people. Surprisingly, a number of SNAKE's superhumans disagreed with the new order, preferring the Supreme Snake's style of leadership.
Events came to a head in 1989, when the Supreme Snake seemingly returned from the dead. How this happened remains a mystery to this day and the Supreme Snake has not been very forthcoming beyond saying "Gila Monster isn't thorough enough". The Supreme Snake wasted no time in reclaiming his position. A civil war broke out between troops loyal to him and those loyal to Gila Monster, fought both on SNAKE Island and SNAKE bases across the world. When the smoke cleared, the Supreme Snake was back in charge, and Gila Monster was dead. An investigation revealed that the Nazi Killer Sex Death Hate had been supporting Gila Monster in an effort to bring SNAKE back under their control.
Over the next few years, SNAKE rebuilt its shattered forcers. They may have been wounded, but SNAKE was far from defeated. The chaos of World War III allowed them the breathing time they needed to rebuild from the civil war. By the time it was over, SNAKE was back, more powerful than before.
The Supreme Snake had also expanded his organisation's legitimate fronts. Numerous small businesses had grown into large businesses; single stores had become franchises. Front companies like SnakeBucks, SnakeBurger, Toys B Us, Serpentnet, Snake Systems and the enigmatic snake.com poured millions of dollars into SNAKE's coffers. SNAKE had continued to grow, and remains a threat to the world.
And no-one knows what SNAKE actually stands for.
Armed Forces: SNAKE's armed forces are powerful; equal to that of many small national armies. SNAKE may have as many as 50,000 soldiers on their rosters; possibly as many as 100,000. These troops are dispersed amongst innumerable bases across the world, as well as SNAKE island itself, which makes their forces seem smaller. If SNAKE's forces were all assembled as a concentrated force, they could be unstoppable.
The typical SNAKE soldier is equipped with modern, lightweight yet durable armour suit and carries a high-tech laser rifle. Both the armour and rifle are developed from technology developed by EvilCorp; however they are much more reliable than EvilCorp's weapons.
SNAKE troopers come in a variety of types, equipped for a variety of specialised roles besides the standard troopers. Air Force Troopers are equipped with jetpacks for mobility and the capability for air to air combat. Heavy Weapons Troopers (also known as Bruisers) carry powerful and exotic weapons designed to take on even the toughest bricks and armoured vehicles. Naval Troopers (also called Eels) use underwater propulsion vehicles and special aquatic weapons. Covert agents wear special "plain clothes" armour and are equipped with an array of sophisticated tracking and eavesdropping devices... the list goes on. A lot of SNAKE's ideas about specialised troop training and equipment have been copied by other evil organisations, most notably the Nazi Killer Sex Death Hate.
SNAKE's arsenal also includes several types of high-tech vehicles designed specifically for their use. The Ratlesnake attack jet, Venom light tank and Fang attack helicopter, to name a few examples, are far in advance of anything used by any national military today. However, SNAKE has only very small reserves of these vehicles; for the most part, SNAKE bases have to make do with modified conventional vehicles.
Rounding off their forces is SNAKE's supervillain team. SNAKE's supervillains can be divided into two categories; those who work directly for the organisation and those who are hired for specific missions. Currently, SNAKE's in-house team consists of Rattlesnake (the team leader), Iguana, Firedrake, Anolis, Fang, Thresher, Piranha Man, Hyperman, Great White, Otto the Rat and Uncle Bob. These are only the known members, however. SNAKE may have more as yet unseen supers in reserve.
