I have had a few request from email for a FAQ page, and also people ask the same ones as well. So here it is, I got this from my
FAVORITE list: Yahoo Groups Commorragh
Shadow Field
Q. If I fail a combat drug test do I loose my shadow field?
Answer: I don't know but my guess would be "no" since the logic for the loss of the shield is that it has been penetrated.
Combat Drugs
Q. Can I take a combat drug option more than once?
Answer: I assume you mean more than once per use. You cannot do so.
Webway Portal
Q. May a Character (i.e. a Scourge Sybarite) forego shooting and open a Webway portal in the same turn that the rest of the unit he is leading
shoots (assuming the unit didn't move, of course)?
Answer: Yes.
Q. What happens to my troops I had in reserve if my webway portal carrier is killed?
Answer: They’re lost unless the mission allows for reserves in which case you roll/deploy them as normal.
Q. Can an enemy unit/vehicle move onto a Webway Portal and “block” Dark Eldar reserves from coming through it?
Answer: No. Enemy units may not move on top of the blast marker.
Q. Can a squad assault on the turn it comes through the Portal?
Answer: Yes.
Q. When moving onto the board as reserves through the Portal, do models move off the template as if it were a board edge?
Answer: Yes.
Q. Can a character deploy the Portal while he/she is still embarked on a Raider if the Raider (and the character, of course) didn’t move that turn?
Answer: Yes. Just place the blast marker on the ground touching the
Raider but as close to the character as possible.
Reaver jetbike
Q. The Reavers get the result of 1 on their Combat Drugs roll and never fall back. The Succubus in the squad has her own drugs, and the result of "Crazed! Ignores fall back results..." is not available to her. Now, if the squad loses combat, they will not fall back because of the squad’s drugs,
but will the succubus have to make a morale test and possibly fallback (and leave the squad)? This is only and issue because she is not an
Independent Character.
Answer: Under these circumstances she would ignore the fall back result. (Ruleboyz)
Q. Can Reaver jetbikes move over troops?
Answer: No
Q. Do a Reaver Jet Bike turbo-boost benefits/penalties apply if the route it took to its destination is greater than 12", but shorter than 24"?
Answer: Yes
Q. Does the DE jetbike get the same charge bonus as the eldar bike?
Answer: No. While its true that the reaver write-up says that it functions the same as an eldar jetbike, it actually functions nothing like the codex
Eldar jetbike. This is probably an error caused by the serial nature of the codices. So no jink for anyone but Banana Heads.
Q. Can I use my turbo booster and move 24" and deploy a webway portal the next turn?
Answer: Trick question. The webway portal can't be given to a character on a jetbike.
Q. Does a Reaver Jetbike confer +1 toughness on characters?
Answer: Yes.
Q. Does a jetbike confer +1 STR on characters?
Answer: Yes.
Q. Does a jetbike confer –1 armor save on characters?
Answer: No. Why not? Well, the codex doesn't EXPRESSLY indicate anything about improving character stats under the jetbike entry. The main
rulebook talks about the increased toughness under the general bike rules and the increased strength under the OLD jetbike rules.
I believe that Jervis has indicated that the toughness applies from the general rule and the strength applies from the old rule but was over looked
when drafting the codex (apparently this would be an example of where the old rules were NOT superceded by the codex). I think he also indicted that the armor save bonus was never intended to apply to characters and is really a byproduct of the wyche-biker's general coolness.
Q. Can a DE character on a jetbike use Combat Drugs to assault 12"?
Answer: Yes. (ruleboyz)
Archon/Dracon
Q. Can I really take more than one Archon?
Answer: Of course, but that is overkill.
Mandrakes
Q. Do mandrakes get their cover save in close combat?
Answer: Yes, sort of. They are considered in cover and have a save of 5+. That means they strike first. However, their 5+ save is not invulnerable
because you can’t use cover saves in hand to hand combat. Another way to think of it is that each Drake has a personal patch of trees that he
lugs around with him. Then just treat him exactly like he's always in those trees.
Q. Does the Mandrakes' Always Strike First ability apply after the first turn of close combat?
Answer: No; they don't have an always strike first ability, they have an ability that means they count as being in cover.
Q. Can Mandrakes use the Infiltrate rules?
Answer: Currently NO. However, a recent battle report published in White Dwarf featured infiltrating Mandrakes. This suggests that they may be
revised in the future to allow this ability.
Wyches/Warp Beasts
Q. Do the effects of a shardnet apply to only those models in base to base contact with the net's wielder?
Answer: Yes, not the entire unit.
Q. When, and how often, is the razorsnare used?
Answer: It's used in the assault phase, after the attackers have made any charges but before combat is resolved. It can be used in either player's
assault phase. (rule Boyz)
Q. Can I take warp beasts without wyches?
Answer: The codex says no. The confusion always seems to center around the fact that the Beasts count as a single Elite choice along with one
unit of Wyches but are a separate unit in every other sense. (The army builder program improperly has them as an upgrade to a wyche squad
that improperly allows them to ride in a raider).
Q. Can Warp Beast ride a raider with their Wyche squad?
Answer: No. (See above)
Grotesques
Q. When grotesques (who need 6 STR to be wounded) take damage on a 4+ (e.g. their raider crashing) do they: ignore the damage, as it isn't 6 STR or take one wound, even though a 6 STR hit should auto-kill them
Answer: They take one wound. (Rule Boyz)
Warrior/Raider Squads
Q. May you make a "Fleet of Foot" move after disembarking from a vehicle?
Answer: Yes. (Ruleboyz)
Q. Can Raiders move over troops?
Answer: Yes
Q. If you move exactly 6", can you shoot all your ravager weapons? If you
move exactly 12" can you disembark from your raider?
Answer: Yes and Yes. (Jervis)
Q. Must the distance between a fast skimmer's starting and ending points be greater than 6" in order for the benefits and penalties for such a
movement to apply?
Answer: Yes.
Q. Can a sybarite in a raider squad get combat drugs and charge 12"
Answer: Yes. The rest of the unit will have to catch up when it can. Note that this also applies to an Archon with a retinue. When used with the Archon, this strategy is actually quite effective. Your Archon charges into contact with *one* enemy model. You'll go first, and more than likely kill that one model (with some other wounds spilling into the unit he's with). That leaves your Archon with no models in BtB, thus facing only "thrown stones" in return. You ought to win that combat and force a break test. If you don't break them, you both to consolidate into contact. That's 12" of total consolidation bringing the rest of your unit into contact and alleviating the pressure on your Archon.
Hellions
Q. Can Hellions move over troops?
Answer: No
Q. Is the Hellion armor save 5 or 4 because of the skyboard?
Answer: The Hellion armor save is 5. GW includes the modifications to the stats of those units for which certain equipment is mandatory. I guess the hellions “base” save would be 6, but since you can’t take them without the skyboard we’ll never know.
Scourges
Q. Can Scourges move over troops?
Answer: No
Ravagers
Q. Can Ravagers move over troops?
Answer: Yes.
Q. If you move exactly 6", can you shoot all your ravager weapons? If you
move exactly 12" can you disembark from your raider?
Answer: Yes.
Talos
Q. Do you have to roll a 6 to hit the talos in hand to hand fighting?
Answer: No. Its not really a skimmer, it’s a troop type that ignores terrain. Call it a “floaty” instead if you need to put a label on it.
Q. According to the description of the Talos, you roll to hit and then allocate hits to the closest models. Assuming the models are wounded and
killed do you remove the exact models that are killed or can the player choose to remove any model from the squad as per the normal shooting
rules.
Answer: You remove the exact models that are killed. The Talos's special rules over-ride the normal rules. (Ruleboyz)
Special Characters
Lelith Hesperex
Q. How can I build a tourney compliant Wyche army if I can't use Lelith?
Answer: You can't play with Hesperex or her retinue, but you can make an equivalent army. The list goes something like this:
Archon/Dracon: without retinues, equip them as you would wyche characters if you had them, combat drugs, agonisers etc and add them to a wyche, Reaver, or a Hellion unit, with the bike or board as needed.
3 units of wyches w/raiders
1 unit of beasties
2 units of bikes
1 unit of hellions
and the minimum 2 units of warriors, remember the warriors and raider squads count as elites under Lelith's description, so as long as you don't have more than 3 then you are tourney legal and legal as they set their requirements for wyche armies and you can bring everything but a Talos for heavies.
