The rebels are another central team that will have some toughness running up and down the bench. Jim Vandermeer who plays like he's from the movie slapshot, is enough to keep most teams on their toes, however throw in Devon Francon, Ross Lupuschuk and Kyle Wanvig and the Rebs are big enough to rumble with anybody. Jeff Smith and Adam Dombrowski also have the potential to get involved and hold their own. Francon can do a good job, however the Rebels need Wanvig and Vandermeer on the Ice, so they will likely be in the market for a top heavyweight in the not too distant future as they appear to have a solid team that could make some noise.

Devin Francon
LW...6'3"...218lbs...02/14/80
Big guy who should have more fights than he's had so far this season, but the numbers should come as this guy is huge at 6'3", 218. Not all that fast a puncher, but he hits hard and is very strong.

Jeff "Not Brown, not Jones, it's" Smith
LW...6'5"...205lbs...01/02/81
This big left winger hasreally turned it up a notch this year taking the heat of Vandermeer.  In doing so he's found a spot in our top ten.  See "The Mayon event", central division for more info.

Ross "The Boss" Lupaschuk
D...6'1"...212lbs...01/19/81
Plays like he's got a chip on his shoulder and can go when he gets the urge. Loses it when he fights and this along with his strength make him a dangerous scrapper.

Jim "aka Hansen" Vandermeer
D...6'1"...208lbs...02/21/80
Not much to say about this guy that hasn't already been said.  He does it all and although he's not scrapping as much, this kid is tough and will probably spend the rest his junior career in our "Mayon Event", central.

The steady climb to the top of national rankings is no fluke.  The Rebels are being picked by most this year to be the WHL representative at the M-Cup and there's good reason for it.  When you can afford to have one of the toughest guys in the league (Jim Vandermeer) not throwing a punch in over two months, you know you're good.  The Rebels have good goaltending, good defence, good offence and when they need to drop the mitts, they're more than adequatley equipped there also.  Big Jeff Smith has stepped to the plate this year accepting invitations from everybody and even handing out his own invitations when the time arises.  Devon Francon doesn't always have a busy dance card but another guy who hasn't been afraid to accomodate some of the big guns. With Ross Lupaschuk, Doug Lynch, Kyle Wanvig and Justin Mapletoft  getting thier two bits worth in, there is no need for Vandermeer to have to drop the mitts regularly.  It makes for a good situation in Red Deer.  Vandy doesn't have to drop the mitts,  most guys in the league don't want any part of him anyways and he can stay on the ice where they need him and lead this team to the promised land.  The Rebels don't need to go looking for trouble but if it happens to come thier
way they have everything they need to look after the loot.
