March 11, 1998: Metalist came back to Kharkiv just for two days. Today team will start final training in Yalta. There the squad for second round will be determine. Metalist still has 8 new player but just best will be able to wear Metalist jersey in the official games. The president on FK Metalist promised that Kharkiv will play in Premier Division next season. First match of the Second Round in First League - March 27 in Chernigiv. We will try to keep you in touch with fresh information about match as soon as possible.
March 4, 1998: Another day in Israel - another friendly. In Netania Metalist had match against debutante of the Russian Premier League Uralan (Elista). Game tied 0:0. According information from Portugal, Sergey Kandaurov, former Metalist midfielder, got injure and missing few weeks in Benfica squad.
Feb. 23, 1998: During training session in Netania, Israel Metalist won friendly against Tavria (Simferopil) 2-0. Targonsky and Shevchenko scored
Feb. 9, 1998 Metalist came back to Kharkiv from training in Turkey. Team going to stay in the city till February 16. Next session will take place in Israel from 17th.
Feb. 6-7, 1998: Another two friendlies in Turkey - game 1 Tyumen' (Russia) 1-1, game against Dynamo Stavropol' (Russia) Metalist lost 1-3. Training in Antalia continuing through Feb. 9.
Feb. 2 1998: Easy victory in Turkey! Germany's Third League Stal (Rise) was hammered by our super club :-))) 5-0! Four goals scored defender(!!) Victor Ivanenko (keep it up, man - people with that last name can't be bad :-) (Y.I) ., one scored Dmytro Rudnyak
Jan. 31 1998: Double header in Turkey. During few hours Metalist has had two games. First game vs Krivbas (Krivyj Rig) Metalist won 3-2. Goal scored Kucher (2) and Goldin. By the way, Kucher one these players, which joined Metalist squad this year. In next game MX didn't have any problem with Turkey's Second League Ankara-Sport 4-0. Two goals scored Shkolnikov, Ivanenko and Zapoyasko had one each. Not bad for one day :-)
Jan. 26 1998: In Turkey Metalist played second friendly. This time they won Rubin (Kazan', First League, Russia) 1-0. Lots scores his first goal in Metalist squad.
Jan. 24 1998: Metalist lost it's first friendly game against Hannover96 (3.Bundesliga Germany) 1:2. Goal in Metalist squad scored Ivanenko.
Jan. 22 1998: Metalist went to Turkey on first in this year training session. The has several new players in squad.
Jan. 20 1998: Ivan Panchishin has became a head coach of Metalist-2, the farm club of Metalist. Hruslov will help to Fomenko in his coach's job. The team make a training camp in Antalia, Turkey. Some new players are training with the team, and maybe will sign: Kucher from "Bukovyna", Serikov from Zhitomir, and some other players from first division clubs . Forward Olexander Zhuk made transfer to Yavir (Krasnopillja)
Jan. 1 1998: The good news for MX fans! Philip Morris Corporation (tobacco) became the main sponsor of the club. The contract was signed before few days and first money already arrived to the team's cash.
Dec. 9 1997: The one of the best MX past players Ivan Panchishin has became a coach. He and another veteran player Hruslov have joined the MX trainers squad. one of the best european clubs and will play in one of the strongest european leagues.
Good news!!! Valery Lobanovsky is in trouble: in the next season it will be another super club in the Ukrainian Major league!!! A new MX owners have a lot of money, and they must make a alternative to Dynamo Kiev. That is what i think they want to do. And it's possible! The second by size ukrainian city must have a strong soccer team. After the last round of the ukrainian first division it seems that MX is playing very good. The team is now on the second place, and i think it mean that we have a very good chances to see MX comeback to the major league already after this season!

The club chairman Dmytro Drozdnik, the man who destroyed Metallist
and all football activity in the city, has been fired and now is an object
of police investigation. The new club administration promises to return
the team to major league. I hope that it will be really so, and so soon
as possible.
One of the first MX games of the new season was a great victory in away game against Naftovyk Ohtyrka 4:1!!! The team showed a really good play.
The old good many years captain of the club Ivan Panchishin is coming back. This defender vas a team captain almost at all seasons that MX played in Soviet major league. Forward Oleksander Karabuta is also coming back to the club.
I think, this players together with new young squad will be able to return the team to the major league already after this season.
