HIGHLIGHTS:Husen had an outstanding year as the Rangers' shortstop during the 2000 season. In his second year as a Ranger, Husen helped solidify a defense that turned six double plays and a triple play. Husen also hit .300 with four doubles and six RBI and scored 10 runs in 16 games. He drew four walks and stole five bases. Husen also made himself useful as a relief pitcher. He made four appearances and earned one save. He also struck out seven in eight innings of work.
In high school, Husen was an All-League shortstop all four years he played on varsity, including his freshman year when at 14, he became the youngest player to make the squad. As a starting pitcher his last two seasons, he amassed a 15-2 record.
At Chico State University, Husen discovered the level of competition was substantial. After practicing with the college squad for two months, Husen left baseball to focus on scholastic and co-ed endeavors.
After participating in various softball leagues for 17 years, Husen grew restless and sought a new challenge. He found it in the Tri-Valley MSBL where he made the 1999 All-Star team his first year in the league. He lead the Rangers in runs scored and was among the top five Rangers in hits, batting average, slugging percentage, extra base hits, walks and RBI in 1999.
Husen also was one of several Rangers to brave a trip to San Quentin Maximum Security Prison in 1999 to play baseball against the prisoners (see picture below). In all, Rangers players made three trips to the big house and beat the cons twice.
