Severe Winter Hard on New Hampshire's Deer Population
March 18, 2003 -- Parts of southern New Hampshire are experiencing one of the most severe winters for deer they've had since record-keeping began in the early 1960s. People can help deer by restraining dogs, avoiding deer wintering areas and NOT feeding the deer.

Close but no record, the rack nets 156" and grosses 171".

  NEW STATE ARCHERY RECORD "weight"
Roger Mattewman shot the new NH record archery deer in Gilford (251.5 lbs.) a few weeks ago. One week earlier he shot a buck in Gilford weighing 202.5 lbs. He says he has some nice bottlenecks to hunt in. The old record was tied at 237.5 lbs.

This site started as a personal homepage just for the fun of it, but the more I worked on it the more I wanted to do.

Boone and Crockett bucks in tiny New Hampshire? The Granite State?
New Hampshire has long held a local reputation for harboring big bucks, and
lots of them. According to Charles Bridges, Chief of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, “we’ve always had trophy deer with big racks here in New Hampshire, with some of our northern field-dressed whitetails tipping the scales in excess
of 200 pounds. And it’s been that way for quite a while. We also have a lot more deer than people outside the region realize. Using a new population model, the number of deer statewide before hunting season in recent years is estimated to be between 65,000 and 70,000.
