Noveleta Town, Cavite Province, Region IV, Philippines
During the early years, Noveleta was a barrio of Kawit. It was established as a town in 1867, three-hundred-forty-seven years after the coming of the Spaniards to the Philippines.
Noveleta was formerly referred to as Tierra Alta, meaning higher ground because it was located on an area higher than San Roque, Caridad and port of Cavite. The Spaniards, on the other hand, referred to the place as Nueva Isla or New Island because the locality looks just like an island.
During the early years, visiting priests used to speak of the place as a new fate or New Fortune, in Spanish being Nueve Lete. thus, by way of speaking: "Este es un Nueve lete." The town people mishearing and mistaking the foreign words as the town's name, called the place Nove Leta.
During the Battle of Calero, in which more that 400 Spanish soldiers were killed by Filipino revolutionaries, was fought at a bridge here in 1896. The highway divides at Noveleta, one branch continuing straight to Naic and Ternate, the other following the narrow peninsula up to Cavite City. On the east side of this road is Bacoor Bay. Before the shore was dried, this area was famous of the gathering of kapis shells.
