Aging & Family Services of Mineral County
There are many services available for local seniors age 60 and over, in addition to the well known nutrition and in-home care programs, as outlined in the Older Americans Act.
| Transportation | Provision of a means of transportation for a person who requires help in going from one location to another. |
| Assisted transportation | Provision of assistance, including "escort" to a person who has difficulties (physical or cognitive) using regular vehicular transportation. |
| Housekeeping | Includes light housekeeping, laundry, and other chores. |
| Letter writing | To read, write, interpret and/or translate business and personal correspondence. |
| Senior advocacy | Providing counseling and referrals concerning consumer issues. |
| Tax preparation | Tax counseling and preparation |
| Material aid | Provide support in the form of goods or food products, such as the direct distribution of surplus commodities, seeds, garden produce, smoke detectors, fans, etc. |
| Insurance counseling | Provide support and counseling concerning insurance and medical benefits. |
| Blood pressure clinics | Provide blood pressure clinics monthly, throughout the county. |
| Telephone reassurance | Telephone at least weekly frail seniors in order to provide comfort, help and determine that they are safe and well. |
| Assisting in fuel applications | Provide assistance in completing Low Income Energy Assistance Program applications. |
| Instruction/training | Formally and informally present information geared to the interests and concerns of seniors. |
| SPAN II Prescription Assistance | Provide West Virginia Senior Prescription Assistance Network applications. |
