Chemotherapy & Radiation Treatment
Dr. Harris setup an appointment at the Cancer Center for Charlie to meet Dr. Taylor for followup cancer care.  This oncologist was strange, said very little, and did not answer questions.  What do ya do?!

Such a blunt, rude response to questions :(

He said this was very aggressive cancer, rapid growing, & would prescribe chemo/rad therapy to "buy some time". Was this what we needed to hear?

How much time? Would he lose his hair? Would he vomit? Would it hurt? Charlie was scared of chemo horror stories and wanted some answers.  Dr. Taylor looked at him, advising that he didn't like being interrupted, but if there were symptoms like nausea, that he could prescribe a medication for it - that all he could do right now was try to buy him some time.  UGH!!

<little did we know then, that this was the one doctor who spoke the truth>

Well the next appointment was with the Radiologist, who really got an earful of Charlie's thoughts of the Onco - he was ready to vent!!!!

He was scheduled for a "simulation", & enjoyed talking with this doctor over the radiology dept but guess what? This doc did not mention the risks involved. He only said you might be a little tired, it won't hurt, takes very little time, but 36 treatments were recommended. Well he soon learned the truth!

Thus, the two doctors worked together, putting Charlie on a 24/7 chemo cadd pump of 5fu/leucovorin, along with daily radiation therapy.  He was sedated in the Outpatient Surgery where a "port" was placed in his upper chest for the IV.

After a few visits with Dr. Taylor in the chemo center, we soon learned that he had resigned and Dr. Morrison stepped in to handle my husband's care. He was sweet, friendly, had a great sense of humor, as my husband was quite the joker LOL !

Radiation did wear him down, but it also caused IBS - irritable bowel syndrome, plus taking loricet for pain that added constipation as another problem on top of everything else!

Then when a big tumor showed up next to the "recurrence" they said well it sometimes happens with radiation.  So I guess it's true that radiation causes cancer !  Beware! Get the facts up front!

However, when the end came, I regretted not having the previous doctor, who was honest with us at the very beginning & probably would have treated the problems as they arose much better :(
