This is just a story. It is not a real transcript of a Roswell episode. Enjoy! Comments always welcome.
It's Friday night. Max, Isabel, Michael, and Tess are sitting in the Crashdown. Maria is waiting tables. Liz is at the cash register. Maria comes over to their table to take their order. Max is telling Isabel and Michael about Brody showing up in New York at the summit. "This is just a little too convenient, Max," says Isabel. "First, Brody shows up and buys the UFO center, then he shows up at the summit. ... This is just too weird!" "I agree it's unusual," replies Max. "And Rath, Lonnie, and Ava?" says Michael. " "Max, she impersonated me to get to you! Do you understand what that means?" "Yes, I do ... " his voice trailing off. "If it hadn't been for Liz," Isabel continues, "you could have been killed!" "Liz?" says Tess, genuinely confused, but with considerable interest. Isabel looks at Max, as if she has said too much. "You didn't see her?" asks Max. "No, I saw you walking under the scaffolding when Rath grabbed me ..." "But you didn't see Liz?" "No!" "I ... I saw you step forward ... and then Rath and Lonnie pushed me away. I ... I didn't see anything else." Tess was looking at Liz. She was talking to a customer, but as soon as the customer left, Liz looked straight at her. And somewhere, in the core of her being, Tess became genuinely afraid. She turned away but still felt Liz's stare.
Maria walks up to the table. "You want anything else from the kitchen. We're closing." "Maybe another order of Saturn rings," says Michael. "and some more Tabasco," holding up the empty bottle. Tess shakes her head and Isabel says no. "I guess that's it." says Max. Maria starts to turn away, but Max grabs her. "Girlfriend?" "I just wanted to know ... is Liz okay?" "Yea, fine. What do you think? She discovers a sister she never knew she had, and you expect her to be fine. ... I mean, how would you feel if your parents kept something like that from you?" But that's not exactly what Max meant. "Can you add up the bill?" She looked at Max and sighed. "Yeah, sure." She gives him the bill and he goes over the register.
"Hey," he says. She looks up and smiles, ever so slightly. "Hi, Max." "You didn't come over..." "I know. I'm sorry. It's not you. It's me" "Can I help?" "Thank you," she says, "but I don't know if you can." "I'd like to try ... if you let me ... Liz." She looked over her shoulder and saw Tess staring. Did she know, Liz was wondering. "Liz?" She looked back into Max's eyes. She nodded and averted his eyes, making change from the bill. "I'll come back later." She nodded again.
Tess, Michael and Isabel are riding in the jeep. Michael's driving. Tess is in the back. She's leaning forward between the front seats. "What did you mean ... you know, about Liz saving Max?" Michael flashed Isabel a look. Isabel didn't answer. "Isabel?" says Tess. Isabel hated it, hated keeping these secrets. She ran her fingers through her hair. "Okay, okay." "Isabel," warned Michael. "I hate this!" she returned. "Tess, when you were in NY, Ava told us that Max was in danger ... than Lonnie and Rath killed Zan and that they were probably going to kill Max." Tess stiffened a little. "I tried to dreamwalk Max," Isabel continued, "but I couldn't reach him. He wouldn't listen; he was too far away. I didn't know what to do." "And ... ?" says Tess. "Ava said Liz could do it," said Michael. "What do you mean, Liz could do it?" "She didn't really explain ... just that Liz was different now and that she could do it." "How ... different?" but it was a question that somehow Tess felt she ought to know the answer to. There was something. ... "I helped Liz dreamwalk Max ... and then she was on her own ... without my help. She's the one who reached Max, not me." "But how could she ..." "I don't really know, and I, I don't care. I know that Max is alive and that's what's important to me." Tess leaned back in the jeep and was silent.
Liz was reading on the lounge in the patio area off her bedroom when she heard Max's voice. She got up and went to the edge to let him know she was there. He was already up the ladder by the time she crossed over. They almost collided, but grabbed each other, more to keep each other from losing their balance and falling. But, to be able to touch ... Max pulled her into him and kissed her. It felt so good to be able to touch her again, to feel his hands in her hair, her body ... to feel her lips against his ... responding. And she, Liz, wanting to drown in his arms. Could anything feel this good? "Max," she said, all the while Max's hot breath against her neck, her body in tune to his. "Serena's here." And as quickly as it had begun, it stopped and all the time thinking, please don't let it stop. "You saw her?" questioned Max. Liz nodded. "She was here, last night." "Here? Why did she come to you, not me or Isabel or Michael. Why not Tess?" "I don't know. I've been asking myself the same thing and I don't have an answer." "Who is she? What does she have to do with you?" "Max, she knows so many things. She knows about my grandmother, she knows about my sister, she KNOWS everything about US, YOU and ME, the Granilith ... and the future ..." "And destiny," Max says with a knowledge newly gained, "a separate destiny, different ..." "You know?" "Something I remembered. ... About us." "Max, you couldn't remember anything about us from before," says Liz, almost shyly. "Yes, I DO. ..." he says, cupping her face in his hand, and begins to kiss her. "You ARE my destiny." "Max," Liz responds, trying to keep her head clear, but wanting more of those kisses, "the book ..." "What book?" he says, "The destiny book?" "No," says Liz, getting more distracted by the moment, "the other one, you know, 'The Once and Future King' ... her voice trailing off. "It's important." "Later," he says, "you're what's important to me now."
Maria was in a really good mood. She was just coming back from the UFO Center where she had spent a nice evening with Brody talking about his computers and what his latest findings were. She hadn't enjoyed anything like that in a long time. She was singing to herself when Michael stepped out from the shadows. She jumped. "Oh, it's you." "Maria, there's something you need to know about Brody." "Other than he's cute and has lots of money and he's an alien abductee?" "I'm serious, Maria." "Okay, okay ... what?" "Max saw Brody at the peace summit." "What are you talking about?" "Max went to NY to attend this intergalactic peace summit that really wasn't a summit ...." "Wait, wait, wait ... you're telling me that Brody was at this interstellar summit ..." "Yeah." "For real?" "Yeah." "Like in Brody, Brody." "Yeah, well, not exactly." Maria gives him a look. "You see, this representative from a planet in our galaxy took over Brody's body and used it ..." "This is sounding way too much like 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers.'" "Yeah, sort of..." "Oh great, isn't there anybody in this town that isn't Duned?"
Tess is back at the Valentis, in Kyle's bedroom that she recently claimed as her own. What did Ava tell Isabel and Michael? More importantly, WHAT DID SHE TELL LIZ? She had to find out. Maybe, she could dreamwalk Liz, like Isabel. It was worth a try. She had Kyle's yearbook. Isabel almost always used a picture ... so .... and she began searching in space for Liz, not far away, just down the road a piece ... and there on the rooftop ... with Max. "Hello, Tess" broke her concentration and she was back in Kyle's room and there before her was Serena. "How did you get in?" "Does it matter?" said Serena. "What do you want?" "You already know the answer to that question, don't you?" "By the way, how IS Kivar?"
