![]() In some of the threads I've read, everyone is looking for the half-alien. Maria? Liz? Kyle? Who? So I decided to think on this and see if there are plausible or possible scenarios that might accommodate our need for making the humans hybrids.
The first thing I had to decide was whether or not it was possible. And after a little rudimentary research ... surprise! It IS!
Then I had to decide who. Well, I AM crazy, so this is what I decided to do. Let's make Liz, Maria, Alex, and Kyle ALL hybrids!
How can that be? Well, Kyle and Maria are actually fairly easy. With Maria and Kyle, we have one absentee parent we know nothing about. So they could partially alien.
Liz and Alex are tougher because we have seen their blood samples which prove them 100% human! Right? WRONG! There is ANOTHER possibility which I hadn't considered. What if we are dealing with MUTANT genes?
And here's where we get a little complicated, because we begin to talk about heredity. Under normal circumstances two different people pairing up would create children that inherit a certain set of genes from each parent. Their children in turn could produce children that may inherit only from one set of grandparents and from that grandparent, they may inherit MUTANT genes.
Mutant genes CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED under a microscope!
So what does that mean to our alleged 100% humans? If they received mutant genes from an alien source, normal bloodwork would not reveal the mutant gene (unlike aberrations). Their blood samples COULD read completely normal! So Liz, reading a blood slide in biology class would not have seen and/or recognized the mutant gene and Alex's blood sample would read normal because they would only be looking at blood type.
Now we have a possible case for making ALL FOUR hybrids based on some scientific theory.
So here it goes, another possible storyline (which may require the willing suspension of disbelief):
The alien spaceship carrying the bodies of the Royal Four is being pursued by the Skins, who we now know are in search of the Granilith (sp?) as well as the "Royal Four". Now, Max's people are not stupid. To protect the "Royal Four", they may have created additional pods as decoys or duplicates. And these pods may have been mixed in such a way that two of the Royal Four are in one bank of four pods and the other two are in the second bank of pods. Or we have a complete duplicate set of the Royal Four. Now we have EIGHT pods (a nice number representing infinity and possibly symbolic here).
Into these pods are injected the human DNA by means of the Granolyth perhaps. Source: possibly Liz's grandmother? (See More Storylines and What Ifs). She is the right age to have been one of the first alien abductees. Or perhaps alien abductees from each affected family?
Two factors can affect changes in mutant genes: irradiation and/or environment. This allows for adaptability and/or changes in the gene. It also allows the ability to pick and choose much in the same way as food geneticists preselect genes or discard genes to create new, hearty, pest-resistant foods. You breed out flaws and breed in the positive.
Under normal circumstances, this alien/human mix could produce all eight to be identical. However, we are not talking normal circumstances. We are talking about a crisis situation. So everything is NOT going to go as planned and we are going to see VARIANTS among the eight pods.
THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM: The Nasedo tells Michael and Isabel in Max to the Max that all their bone structure is human. That means that human bone structure has been breed into the mix, but the blood issue is questionable leaving room for variance. Only three characters have had blood identified: Max - Alien (The White Room); Liz - Human (The Morning After); Alex - Human (Blood Brothers).
![]() Now let's just say from a point of argument that we are dealing with a duplicate set of the Royal Four. Why? If Max's race can mix human and alien DNA, it stands to reason that they can also DUPLICATE the essence of the Royal Four. They would do this to ensure the future of their royal dynasty. If one set of pods was captured, the other would be safely located elsewhere. However, with the mix of human DNA (supplied by Liz's grandmother and/or others), the results are unpredictable because they would not have and time to breed out certain flaws or breed in positive traits. Now we may have a mirror set of positive/negative traits.
Positive = Negative (And this is not saying one character is more evil than another, just that, for example, if Liz is selfless then Tess is manipulative; if Michael is impulsive, then Alex is more cautious.)
This would go a long way in explaining HOW these characters interact with each other and WHY their is such an attraction between them.
TWO SETS of Destiny books are prepared, each containing the same information but with another set of pictures – thus showing Liz, Kyle, Maria, and Alex. NOW, whose destiny is whose?
BACK TO THE STORY:
The ship crashes. Two aliens die; two live. One is captured immediately, leaving at least one to hide the pods and the Granilith. Right now, we assume this is the Nasedo. And assuming that we may have alien abductees and/or additional aliens, they help to hide the communicator, the pods, and the Granolyth as well.
So where do the other four pods go?
1. They could go into the pod chamber with the other four but opposite, that is, on the other side of the Granolyth, presently hidden from view.
2. Deposited in an undisclosed location.
So what happens next? A couple of theories.
1. The pods are discovered or monitored by an unknown/known individual (Liz's grandmother?) or by another unknown friendly alien. These pods are premies; they hatch early (at separate times) – in infant stage, six years prior to Max, Isabel, Michael, and Tess. As a result they need human care. This person does one of two things:
A. At the local hospital, this person switches stillborn babies with the duplicate podsters when they hatch. They are placed in individual families unbeknownst of the switch and raise these changelings as their own.
B. Sets up prearranged illegal adoptions for the four. Why? Remember, nuclear testing was happening in the ’50s. Therefore, it is possible, that any set of individuals born in that time period may have abnormalities that prevent them from having children. So, maybe the families found a way to have their children – by illegally adopting these untraceable children. Yes, this may be stretching it, but one can make reasonable, if elaborate stories for each family. And we know that each of the families were in Roswell when Liz, Maria, Alex, and Kyle were born.
C. The human families were preselected with all four families having some kind of an alien connection.
D. A combination of A-C.
For six years, Liz, Maria, Alex and Kyle grow up under normal human conditions unaware of their "alien" origination.
The second set of pods hatch. But by this time, there is no Nasedo (who has fled by this time for fear of discovery) and/or no guide to help them. The podsters go and make their way into the world. The Evans find Max and Isabel; Michael winds up with Max. And the story is set to continue from the bits the writers have already given us. They enter school. Max recognizes Liz as he soulmate in the third grade, keeps it to himself. Liz, Alex and Maria becomes best friends. Liz dates Kyle, thus tying the a set together and the rest come together when Pilot kicks in and Liz is shot.
