SWAMP DOGG LIVES!!!!! Check out his "We Crowned an Idiot King" (the last musical word on the Bush presidency) and his
recipes in the book THE CATALOG OF COOL. Keep being your own man, Jerry! The First Church gonna put your image in STAINED FUCKIN' GLASS!

to a valid Katrina relief charity!

Brutal Admission:

Though my passion for music is totally undiminished, I have not felt the burning compulsion to write about it for over a year. Part of this is due to the nature of the most recent great music: what am I, a landlocked Midwestern, Bible Belt white boy of Dutch-German descent gonna have to say about M.I.A., Go-Go Bordello, or even Lil' Wayne that can enlighten you? BUT...BUT...BUT...for the music obsessive--despite the fact this site's seldom updated--if you explore it I am confident you are gonna find some cool musical "Holy Grails" to go after. And while we're talking 'bout that...FUCK MP3s!!!! Don't you want the hard copy, with real album art, musician credits, and liner notes? YOU KNOW YOU DO! IT AIN'T TOTALLY ABOUT CONSUMER CONVENIENCE AND PORTABILITY!!!! I don't fucking care if my house is overrun with CDs and vinyl--it's just my way of keeping connected to other humans in the face of a world that's whisperin' in your ear, "Hole up! Everybody's crazy, everybody's a threat!!! Create a life where you can get what you need and not have to really interact with humans!!! And give US (the ominous, vague, hovering, ominpresent US) your money so you can BE SAFE!!! NOTHING BETTER THAN SAFE!!!!" I have two words in response: Fuck "safe." Safe is anti-life. Throw yourself into the maelstrom and FEEL what it's like to be alive.

OK...you're on your own.

After months enduring the hot winds of torpor, depression, computer disobedience, disillusion, and spiritual skepticism, the Church imploded. Now that I have thoroughly wallowed in the ashes and been re-sanctified by the Drive-By Truckers, a summer full of New Orleans R&B, and a winter enlivened by the Hold Steady, I'm rebuilding. Please be patient...there's still mostly old stuff up and it's currently a pain to navigate. But if you're new or just a sentimental old fluff...click on any of the site areas below (I suggest either of the first two) to get a taste of what the Church is about.

(Relatively) Recent Stuff:
***The Youth Choir: Anne Shifley sounds off on Maximo Park's A Certain Trigger
***Dylan doc soundtrack rip-off
