I Met Wayne Brady!

Wayne Brady and Friends Perform in Sacramento!

Niki Standing Outside the Punchline

And I was lucky enough to see them! And I have the pics to prove it! For those of you that don't know (and there should be relatively few of you accessing my little piece of cyberspace), Wayne Brady is a very talented actor and improver who regularly performs on one of my two favorite tv shows "Whose Line is it Anyway".

It was a really fabulous show, on Saturday, May 27th 2000. Two days before Jo's and my birthday! Hooray for our birthday (Thanks Mom)! I bought the tickets and Jo was kind enough to join me! We had really awesome seats about 15 feet from the stage! My Twin Sis Jo Holding the Tickets

This Is a Recounting of the Night that I Posted on the USDOM mb and the Whoser mb

Please keep in mind this is the best that I can recall what happened, and I had a few beers, so some details are a little fuzzy!

Okay, as most of you know, I had the opportunity to see "Wayne Brady and Friends" perform (technically last night) at the Punchline down in Sacramento. It was fabulous!

My twin sister Jo and I went, and we got there an hour and a half early, thinking ourselves so very clever! Wrong! There was a long line and we got stuck halfway in the middle of it! Oh well. We were stuck in the hallway of the shopping complex and it was HOT! So my sister got us some ice water from a nearby bar. Niki After the Show! Don't
you just love the hair??

I kept looking for Megan, but alas, I never found her! :( Too sad! (found out later that she had gone to the earlier show) But we had fun anyway. I spilled half of my ice water when I went to get something from my backpack and felt like the biggest dope in the world! The people around me were so nice though, they said it felt really cool and nice! What sweeties!

When they finally sat us in the club Jo and I had the pleasure of sharing our table with Mark and Mona hailing from lovely Granite Bay (for those of you who don't know, it is a VERY upscale and preppy part of town) so naturally, they were so terribly polite (this is me being facetious) that I felt like the stupid backwoods bumpkin that I am! Oh well, the joke is on them because I got to sit there, drink one of my favorite ales, and lower the per-capita income of the table! Jo and I did, however have great seats about 15 feet away from the stage on the aisle.

The first warm up comedian was very cool. He did some great impressions, and his jokes were funny, but somewhat clean. The second dude was raunchy as hell, but he really had the crowd on his side! Guess Which One is Me! It's
hard to tell isn't it? Actually if you look closely,
you can see Cory's signature on my shirt!

Then Wayne, Jonathan, and Cory came out! Hooray! And since I was on the aisle, they ran right by me! Yay! They started out with a rap song, and this dude name Frank totally hassled them. They wanted an occupation someone in the room actually did, and he shouts out "Professional Golfer". So then Wayne asks him if that is what he does and the dude says "Well if I did, I wouldn't be sitting here." Ouuuuch! He was actually in Insurance, so Wayne tries to clarify by asking exactly what he does, and the guy pulls out his Big Vocabulary Stick and says (I'm not sure about this word if I even have it right, and I thought I had a big vocabulary) "Reprogation", which is apparently some form of money collection. Wayne hassled him and the audience loved it! When they did their Rap, Cory actually used it! Extra Credit points to Cory!

They moved on to Film, TV and Theatre Styles, Wayne asked for some tv shows and I shouted out "Cheesy 70's Show", which Wayne really seemed to like, but Jonathan didn't use it. Of course Porn was in there! Duh! This is the
fabulous baby tee that I wore.
This is the back where
Jonathan and Wayne signed it!

They did Shakespeare Scene, which Wayne did well at, but Jonathan and Cory really excelled at! Their couplets were brilliant! They also performed One Word at a Time Story, Irish Drinking Song, and Moving People. Then they did Backwards/Forwards Scene, in which Wayne decided they would be a 70's Cop Show! (I would love to think it was because of what I said earlier, but alas, it probably wasn't!)

Then they performed a game in which Wayne and Cory had to leave the room. Jonathan then asked us for A Place, An Occupation, and an unusual Murder Weapon (of which we had two). The idea of the game is for Jonathan to get the idea across to Wayne, then Wayne to get across the idea to Cory all in under 4 minutes AND without speaking! Our place was a junkyard, the occupation Veterinarian, and the first murder weapon was a spoon, and the second (which I shouted out) was Lawn Tractor! They did an excellent job and nailed the first three, but Cory started out with "Lawn Mower" which Wayne called "Riding Lawn Mower", and finally Wayne shouted out "Tractor" and the audience cheered (note to self, pretty darn fast for city boys)!

They closed out the show with a Soul/Country song, which I think was called (though I had quite a bit of SNPA in me by then) "Bitch, Return the Car." It was most excellent!

Luckily, most everyone filed out and I had to hit the little girls room, but when I returned I found Jonathan and asked him to sign my shirt, the one that I was wearing. He said "Sure" and I handed him a permanent marker and he signed the back, which of course I couldn't read! Jo and I found Cory and I asked him to sign my shirt and his reaction was priceless! He said "Your shirt? No one has ever asked me to sign a shirt before." So he signed it in the front on the right hand side! A more detailed
view of the back of the shirt.
It still smells like perfume! Then we entered the throng by Wayne, and since we had the camera out, a dude told us he would pay us $10 if we would take a picture of Wayne and his girlfriend and mail it to him. So I said, "I have the instant Camera, would you like a Polaroid??" So I took the picture and he handed over the cash after it had developed (I didn't want him to get cheated) She had Wayne sign it too. (Note to those of us planning on going in July and/or September, this could be a VERY profitable business venture and help pay for the trip, but be sure to include the Improvers by giving them kickbacks!)

So we hung around the slowly dissipating throng by Wayne and listened to him politely chat up these very sweet young ladies in a bachelorette party. They were very nice, but they started asking him all sorts of questions about where he performs in LA (I'm thinking; Boring, Boringer, and Boringest). So I say "Well, you should go see a Houseful of Honkeys Show" and Wayne looks up at me kinda startled and says (to the bachelorettes) "Yea over at ACME Theater on Friday Nights" So the Bachelorettes felt kinda sheepish and they bugged. I'm thinking "Woohoo"!

Cory even spelled
my name right! Isn't that sweet! So then I kind of accosted Wayne and Jo asked if she could take our picture. After she did Wayne said "Ohh, you smell nice."(This made me wonder whether is was the perfume I was wearing or the fact that I had tossed back a few ales and probably smelled like a brewery;I am hoping the former) And all I could say was "Well, thank you." I asked him to sign the shirt and he asked if he could sign it on the back. So while he was doing that and (I am holding my hair up off the back) I said "Thanks so much for coming to Sacramento. Also, all of the Brady Bunchers, say hello especially Linz." And he says "How sweet. Be sure to thank them for me. So we talked for a little while about his website and he mentioned that hopefully starting in July he would like to do monthly chats. He introduced himself to my sister Jo, and she was so cute! She was so impressed and a little bit starstruck. He gave her a hug too! He was very sweet. We thanked him again, and then left because there were still other people there who hadn't had a chance to meet him yet.

We had such a fabulous time! It was incredible! So thank you Punchline for bringing such talent to our little cow town. Thank you Wayne, Cory and Jonathan for coming to the River City, and being brave enough to do it on the Jazz Jubilee Festival Weekend, no less.

And finally thank you Ticketmaster for jacking up the face value of tickets and taking beaucoup of my hard earned money, so that I could guarantee that I could see the show. If you took that last one seriously, we've gotta talk! Love y'all!
