In my opion Termidor is the best liquid termiticide to date and is the chemical I highly recommend.
If you want termites stopped fast use a chemical barrier.
The old standard Liquid Chemical Barrier Subterranean Termite treatment. A minimum standard liquid barrier treatment, correctly done, will stop termites almost instantly. Many homes can be successfully treated using this tried and true method. This is the termite treatment that Termite Companies and home owners have relied on since termite treating began. Now new high tech chemicals make this option better than ever.
*Dursban TC has been around since the late 1980's and is a commonly used termiticide. Dursban is an effective chemical repellant. This chemical in the hands of a professional termite technician can stop subterranean termites in their tracks. Dursban TC is the least expensive termiticide I use.
*Premise, manufactured by the Baer Aspirin people, has little or no odor and has cut call backs to the average Termite Company by 26%. (EPA) If you want this chemical,, you may have to ask for it. Premise is an effective mid priced
termiticide.
*Termidor, made by Aventis, has gone a step farther by using an active ingredient (Fipronil) that can actually eliminate the entire Subterranean Termite Colony. While Termidor can eliminate the termite colony, it doesn't happen overnight. Termites have been observed tunneling through freshly applied Termidor and entering and Apartment building in Phenix City, Al. Termidor is not a repellant therefore termites can breech the barrier until the active ingredient stops them from molting and they die. This chemical has had total elimination in as little as 6 days. Termidor has a top dollar price tag; therefore some of the low end (price) Termite Companies will not use it. If you want this chemical you better ask for it by name.
Liquid chemical subterranean termite treatments usually cost less up front than some of the new biating treatments, and your yearly premium is lower than with a Baiting System treatment too.
Ball Park estimates range from $2.50 to $8 per lineal foot. Some may even be higher. Start with a high number like $8. Then try a lower one, like $2.50. This will give you an idea about how different the prices can be when you call Termite Companies to get bids on the job.
Annual renewal fees for Retreatment only guarantees can range from anywhere from $79 and up for a new contract. A retreatment guarantee is cheaper than the deluxe guarantee that covers damage.
Annual renewal fees range from $120 and up for Retreatment plus Damage Repair if needed. That's the best guarantee, if your home qualifies.
Detailed treatment procedures
These are the most common methods for LIQUID TREATMENT APPLICATIONS to control
Subterranean Termites.
Common procedures to most structures.

SLAB AND CRAWL
SLAB ONLY
CRAWL SPACE ONLY
The base of the foundation wall needs to have chemical placed up against it at a rate of 4 gals. per each 10 ft. This is usually accomplished by digging or scraping a 4" to 6" trench at the base of the foundation wall all the way around. After treating this trench is lightly covered back over.
When you have a concrete patio, driveway, or porch you can't trench. You must vertically drill through the concrete in order to deliver the chemical up against the foundation wall. After treating these holes are patched with matching materials usually mortar.
Drilling just below the slab line from the outside is done at intervals of 12" [GA.], 16" [AL.], all the way around the foundation wall. All voids and expansion joints need Termiticide injected into each hole at a rate of 2 gals. per each ten feet. This will chemically seal these termite entry points.
In the crawl space underneath the house a trench is dug around the outside foundation wall and around all piers. Chemical is applied at a rate of 4 gals. per each 10 feet. All hollow walls and hollow piers are drilled to allow chemical treatment at a rate of 2 gals. per each 10 feet with Termiticide
Any wood debris should be removed along with any wood to ground contact. You should have proper ventilation in the crawl space. One standard vent per each 15 feet on all four sides. If you do not have proper ventilation or vents can not be added a polyethylene barrier can be added on the ground in the crawl space to help.
Regardless of which type of construction you have, All wood to ground contact should be removed except for treated deck posts.
If you have synthetic stucco type covering on your home, it should not be allowed to touch or go into the ground. If it does, have it trimmed. (There are Companies that do just that). estimate to have trimmed, about $8.00 per ft.
* note: Termidor has recently been tested by only trenching the outside of a building and then applying the Termidor to the trench. This is only one small part of a minumum standard treatment. Termidor has exceeded expectations and has been 100% effective each time. So far the label still requires this chemical to be placed as a chemical barrier just like all other termiticides.

Termite baiting works. Want to know how?
Because termites forage for food and moisture every day, the bait system works. When termites forage they are really hunting. Termites are out there just below the surface of the ground every day looking for food and water source.
Termite Bait Stations are placed in the ground at predetermined intervals. They remind me of sprinkler heads. Stations contain wood or a by product of wood that is a desirable food source to Termites. The foraging termites eventually bump into the stations. After feeding, the termites return to the colony leaving a pheromone trail all the way back to the nest for the other termite colonists to follow. This food source is now marked. If it is your house they are feeding on and your not protected, you've got problems. These termites can feed for years with out you noticing. That's how Sub-terranean termites cause extensive damage to homes and property in the US. each year.
Here's how Termite Companies use the bait and switch. The termite tech. will inspect the stations on a regular basis and replace the bait (wood) with the active ingredient in any stations that termites are feeding on. The termites are collected and placed back in the bait station with the active bait. They have to eat their way out. The entire colony can be controlled or eliminated, depending on which bait system your Termite Company has installed.
Baiting is more expensive right now, but prices are coming down fast. Manufacturers are making special deals to promote their systems and it just might be a great time to shop for a Termite Baiting System for your home. The installation fee is higher than a conventional chemical treatment in most cases and because the stations need to be monitored on a regular basis, every 30 to 90 days, the annual renewal fee can sometimes be triple the chemical barrier annual renewal.
Ball Park installation cost. Prices range From $5, to $10 per each Ln. Ft. (the distance in feet around your home)All annual renewal fees should cover Retreatment and Damage Repair.
Annual fees $250 per year and up.
Termite Bait Systems work and work very well. It is now possible to treat homes and other structures that were previously impossible to treat successfully. Homes that were too low underneath to accommodate a technician or homes built into the side of a hill with lots of wood to ground contact, or homes with basements. The list goes on and on. Now there is hope.
Most baiting systems have above ground bait stations to be used in case of an active infestation, but home owners usually want this infestation stopped immediately. If you have an active infestation it might be best to use a spot chemical treatment or foam to immediately stop an infestation.

Borates can last forever!
Borate treatments, could be the wave of the future and hold the key to termite free homes. When a home is properly treated during it's construction phase with a borate product termites can't eat the treated wood nor can they build their tunnels over it, and borates can last from 40 years to literally forever.
Borate treatments usually cost about the same as a conventional chemical barrier termite preconstruction treatment. Yearly premiums should be mid range Somewhere between $100 and $200.
Building a new home? Consider a Borate treatment instead of a conventional Chemical Barrier pretreatment.
On Slab type homes Borates need to be applied during construction.
On Crawl Space homes Pretreating during the construction phase is best.
It is possible to treat an existing home with Borates.
The borate can be double applied to outside sill headers and floor joists 24 inches back toward the center.
Also 24 inches around any columns or piers.
Interior (crawl space or Slab Type Home)
The Borate is double applied to the stud plate.
The wall studs are treated from the floor up 24inches.
This treatment is performed on the exterior walls and all interior walls. This is a 24" band treatment.
Borates soak in, pulled in by the woods own moisture. Over time the borates penetrate almost
completely. Subterranean termites can't eat or tunnel over the wood for at least 40 years.
24 inch band treatments using Borate Products are not yet recognized by Alabama officials.

Foam treatments are generally not stand alone treatments, but they are important non-the-less.
Foam applications usually come into play when a chemical barrier subterranean termite treatment didn't work. When subterranean termites continue to enter the home despite your Termite Company's best efforts at providing a chemical barrier, foam just might be the answer.
Foam can do things other treatments can't do!
Foam can go places that a liquid can't go. Gravity makes a liquid seek the lowest level and you can't make liquid chemical travel up inside a wall void.
When Foam is applied correctly, foam can reach back into cracks and voids and can actually travel up inside a cavity seemingly deifying gravity in order to plug a hole in the chemical barrier and stop the termites.
When a liquid chemical barrier has failed, bring me the foam machine.
Termiticide is whipped into a foam to almost the same consistency as shaving cream using a chemical foam machine. The foam is then applied under pressure to inject into wall voids or under slabs to seal openings in the chemical barrier treatment.
Foam machines are expensive and not all Termite Companies have them. I would consider having one a plus for a Termite Company if I were considering a chemical barrier treatment for my home.
