Hi There!
My name is Sarah and I am a 23
year old Australian girl
who absolutely thrives on chiles
( or chilli's as they are called here! )
Although many people think that
chiles only come from Mexico,
they are actually grown all over
the world,
but no matter how you spell it
or how you pronounce it;
a Chile is still a Chile!
There are more than one hundred
different varieties of chile,
but as far as I am concerned, the
hotter the better!!!
All chiles are part of the capsicum
family.
Chile plants grow best in the warmth,
but still need plenty of water.
Plants come in many different shapes
and sizes,
depending on the type of chile
which they will produce.
Many plants will die after they
produce fruit, however,
there are also many varieties that
will
continually reproduce for many
years.
Many people think that the seeds
are what make
a chile hot in flavour, but this
is not true.
The hot flavour actually comes
from a compound called capsaicin,
which is found in the veins and
the white fleshy part on the inside of a chile.
Capsaicin is also an irritant to
the skin and mucus membranes.
You should be careful not to touch
your face
whilst preparing chiles, and always
wash your hands after preparation.
Chiles are great to cook with.
You dont even have to stick to
the traditional chile recipes.
You can use chile to spice up just
about any meal.
Just remember, not everyone likes
chile,
so if you are having guests over
for dinner, be considerate.
Or it could be a good way to get
rid of someone
you don't like, I guess!
