Thank you for coming to The Sub-Con Lair, one of the last standing memorials of the NES. Why have I devoted a site to the NES, you ask? LOYALTY, for starters. Loyalty to a system of the '80s, which is a reminder to many of us of those great days long past. But not JUST loyalty, as the NES itself was indeed a great system. NES games had a certain homely feeling that's hard to describe, but perhaps the greatest thing about the NES was that NES games took a lot less money and time to make then modern games, many of which have sacrificed gameplay for the mere sake of graphics. What this meant was that any company could make NES games, thus providing us with the many NES titles available today. There were many great game companies that existed back then; not just in Japan but the U.S. and U.K. as well (I know, there still are, but very few, and even fewer good games). Many of these companies tried to make the leap to the Super NES yet, sadly, failed. NES gamers were far less critical then many modern gamers, and enjoyed games for what they were instead of hating them for what they weren't. And surely none can forget the tragedy that is Nintendo Power, once perhaps the greatest gaming magazine ever, now reduced...to the corrupt cesspool that exists today. Yes, it was a wondrous time, which I, Lisker, the webmaster of this site, welcome you to relive. When I started The Sub-Con Lair, I really wanted 2 take 2 key ideas into consideration. 1)To be unique. One must admit, there are hundreds of NES sites out there, and I didn't want to be like all of them. No, I wanted to have things other sites wouldn't. Stuff you couldn't find anywhere else, and I think I've accomplished this with the several unique features to be found in this abode. 2)It's always been my business to entertain, make me people crack a smile. I try in a lot of these things to be funny, as well as informative, so someone can look at this site and have an all-around good time checking it out. Since the site had been started back in early 2001, the site has been vastly improved, with sprite pages containing pics of characters from NES games, as well as hand-drawn comics by Timmy, everyone's favorite artist, humorous comics by myself, death matches between your favorite NES heroes, a great continuing NES comic series, custom NES game counters, links to great sites, interviews with the typical enlightened NES gamer and even a shrine to perhaps one of the greatest movies(in my oppinion) ever made, Darkman. So, enjoy your stay, and I hope that you'll take the time to visit my site quite often, and maybe even leave your mark(but not in the sense you're thinking!)in the guestbook or vote in the polls. Thank you, NES gamer, for merely REMEMBERING the great system that is the NES.
