I
work as a TV master control technician & production operator for KUSI-TV
(cable
9/TV 51) here in sunny San Diego, California.
KUSI
is an independent (non affiliate) station owned and operated by
McKinnon
Broadcasting, owners of Texas ABC affiliates KIII-TV (Corpus Christi) and
KBMT-TV (Beaumont). We are the broadcast affiliate in the San Diego
market for CNN and Fox
News.
During
my shift, I'm responsible for readying (or "racking") & playback of
video voice-over inserts or reporter "packages" for the KUSI News At Ten.
Sometimes
you can see me in the background readying tapes at my console in the live
shots during the 10pm show. |
I'm
also a stand-by audio mix technician -- mixing live sound for the News
At Ten; it's a handful, but I rely on my prior radio/audio background to
get me through!
For
the remainder of the shift, I'm the overnight on-air switcher (8pm to 5am);
responsible for ensuring the programs & commercial breaks air at the
right times according to the station log; monitor the outgoing microwave
& fiber optic link signals to our transmitter plant atop Mt. San Miguel
& feeds to local cable operators, and ensure the station is in compliance
with FCC regulations on behalf of the Chief Engineer. |
