When Qui Gon decides to train young Anakin, Obi Wan doesn't agree. He also senses danger in the boy. But when Qui Gon, right before he dies, tells Obi Wan to train Anakin, Obi Wan makes a promise that'll have great consequenses for the galaxy.
When Luke and Leia was born Obi Wan hid them both. He gave Luke to his brother, Owen Lars on Tatooine. He then settled nearby to watch as Luke grew up. But Owen grew weary of Obi Wan and forbid him to come near the farm where he lived
When Obi Wan was killed it wasn't Darth Vader who did it. Obi Wan mysteriousley became one with the Force in order to save Luke and his friends. After that his spirit could still contact Luke through the Force and in that way he guided Luke many times.
