| Soon after, Love landed her first starring
role in the children's television series "Kids
Incorporated" where she played Robin from 1989-1991.
The show was a mix for singing, dancing, and skits. Love
also performed with the other members of Kids Inc. in a
1992 UCP Telethon. Scott Tyler Wolf (Bailey on Party of
Five) made a guest appearance as twins Billy and Bobby in
a 1991 episode of Kids Inc. when Love was still part of
the cast. She then left Kids Inc. for a co-starring role
as Bernadette Moody in the 1992 FOX family sitcom series
"Shaky Ground" (also starring Matt Frewer and
Robin Riker). The show ran for half a season before it
was unfortunately cancelled. But Love followed that up by singing "Please Save Us the World" before the United Nations Assembly. That song became the theme song for the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janerio, Brazil and Love was appointed a Youth Ambassador. She also starred along with many other young celebrities in the "Please Save Us the World" music video that premiered at this conference. Some fans might remember her singing this song solo in a 1991 Kids Inc. episode about saving the environment. After that, Love placed a supporting role as Andrea in the 1992 kids movie MUNCHIE (also starring Loni Anderson and Dom Deluise). She was also in the "Dance! Work Out With Barbie" workout video in which she sang all of the songs used in the background. Some might remember her appearing in the TV special "The Magic 7". Love was also in two unsold pilots "Running Wilde" and "Just Family" that were not made into series. Party of Five fans know that Love can act, but she can also sing! "When I first heard Love sing, I was blown away," said Reg Powell, the musical director for Kids Incorporated. Between acting jobs, Love recorded and released her debut album "Love Songs" (under the name Love Hewitt) on Medlac Records in 1992. However, that was released only in Japan. A notable single from "Love Songs" was "Dancing Queen" with "I'll Find You" on the B-side. She also released singles from the album in parts of Europe. Next, Love co-starred in the 1993 movie LITTLE MISS MILLIONS (also known as HOME FOR CHRISTMAS). Love played the starring role as Heather Lofton in this USA Network comedy/adventure about a heiress who runs away from her obnoxious stepmother to find her real mom and be with her at Christmas. Howard Hessman is the bounty hunter who's hired to bring her back home. Love continued her movie career with a featured role in 1993's SISTER ACT 2: BACK IN THE HABIT. As Love said, "the story in Sister Act 2 is centered around a bunch of inner-city kids who need to be taught teamwork and that it's okay to love." Her character, Margaret, "is the kind of girl who is afraid people won't like her if she's not pretty. She cops a very bad attitude and is never seen without her compact of makeup -- that is until Sister Mary Clarence wakes her up and shows her what love is all about." As if she wasn't busy enough, Love then got the role of 15-year-old rebellious Franny Byrd on the critically-acclaimed 1994 ABC drama series "Byrds of Paradise." The show ran for half a season before it was cancelled. At the same time, Love signed a contract to record her American debut album on Atlantic Records. Initially scheduled for release in March 1994 (and then for January 1995), her CD was just released on October 10, 1995. Her album, entitled "LETS Go Bang," is a mix of dance songs and ballads and features one song ("Free To Be A Woman") that Love co-wrote. Some will remember that Love took over the role of "Cassidy McKenna" on the short lived 1994 ABC drama series "McKenna." Only five episodes aired. But all this cancellation can't keep a good girl down, which brings us to her current role as "Sarah" on FOX's drama Party of Five. Hopefully this sensational sixteen-year-old has found a show that will last a long time. She also starred in House Arrest in March 1996, also starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Pollack, Jennifer Tilly and Kyle Howard. This is a comedy in which the kids lock their parents in the basement because they are getting a divorce. The main characters are Brooke Figler, played by Love Hewitt, and Grover Beindorf, played by Kyle Howard. Grover is not well-liked at school and Brooke doesn't even know he exists, but all that changes as the movie progresses. Grover becomes a hero to the others and Brooke comes to realize that Grover is a special guy. Love says that this is not her first on-screen kiss, although it took them four or five takes to get it right. Her first on-screen kiss on Byrds of Paradise was also her first kiss in real life. Much of this movie was filmed on a sound stage at CBS studios, but they did also spend some time on location in Monrovia, California where they shot in a school setting. It was also filmed in Pasadena and at a beach. |
