QUESTION: What does SG-1 mean in the title and why did you bother with it? I guess it means "Stargate 1"?
ANDERSON: Michael, you want to take this one?
MICHAEL SHANKS: Well, no.
ANDERSON: Michael Shanks, ladies and gentlemen. [laughter and applause]
WRIGHT: In our series, there are nine teams each individually going through Stargates at any given time. It's not just our hero team. But SG-1 is this group of people right here?
QUESTION: It's a team.
WRIGHT: It's a team.
ANDERSON: [as a cheer] We're number one.
QUESTION: Is this series -- it appears to be pretty much predicated on the notion that what's in outer space is hostile?
GLASSNER: Well, not always. Some of the planets we go to, they're hostile, and some they're friendly, and some there's both. And we have to rescue the ones that are friendly. [panel laughs]
QUESTION: So it's going to be a little bit closer to -- obviously, it will be unique -- but it will be closer to the Babylon 5 or Star Trek kind of unique?
GLASSNER: If it's close to any of them, it's the original first Star Trek. The old, old Star Trek. But even that, it's quite unique compared to that because like I've said before, it's set today, and these people are from 1997 and not, you know, the 21st century.
QUESTION: Just a real quick one. Michael, your bio talks about you happening upon an episode of MacGyver. Is this for real, and if it is, can you talk about this?
SHANKS: Yeah, actually, this is a story that I've never shared with Richard Dean Anderson--
ANDERSON: What?! [laughter]
SHANKS: It happened my first year of university. I mean, you guys all have the print-out, so read that. Okay, I'll tell the story:
I was auditioning for theater school and it wasn't a full-fledged belief of mine to go into acting full-time until I happened upon Jericho Beach where an episode of MacGyver was being shot. I watched a certain man work for a while, and became very intrigued and decided to pursue it a little further.
ANDERSON: Who was that man? [laughter]
TAPPING: Who was that masked man?
SHANKS: I don't know. My opinions change. [laughter]
OFFSAY: And on that note, we're going to move on. Thank you all for being with us here today. [applause] We look forward to "Stargate SG-1."
