Don Davis, who is General Hammond on SG-1, took a few moments to answer
some questions regarding Stargate and his role.
What is your favorite aspect of working on Stargate SG-1?
My favorite aspect is that I'm getting to work again with Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Greenburg and I'm working with a great bunch
of actors and crew. Michael Shanks, Chris Judge and Amanda Tapping are wonderful people to work
with. They are very talented, we have a great script and the crew is a bunch that I've been working with
for almost twenty years.
Had you seen Stargate before taking the role?
Yes I had and enjoyed it very much. I'm a Kurt Russell fan and I thought he and James Spader
did a great job. I think Rick and Michael are doing every bit as good a job.
Since you are not playing a role originated by someone else, do
you think you have an advantage over Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks?
Certainly. I'm not being compared to someone. I'm just there creating a character that was
generated for this version of the show.
What are the chances of your character going on an away mission?
I would like to. In real life, a general doesn't run out to the front lines, regardless of what
you saw in the Patton film. The general's job is to run the show and he can only he can only do that if he is
divorced from the main action so he can get an overview of what's occurring.
How different was it to play a colonel instead of a general in
Daniel's alternate reality storyline?
It really wasn't that different at all. I have a military background and I simply assumed the
persona of a colonel rather than the person in charge.
Without giving too much away, what does is in future for
Stargate SG-1?
The simple answer to that is that it's classified. The honest answer is that I don't honestly
know. I am given new episode a couple of weeks before they are shot to read and that's when I learn what
the next adventure is going to be just as the audience
does as they tune in each week.
