A viking age drop spindle for Sunnifa with a soapstone whorl and maple spindle.

A soapstone whorl from Gotland [1]:

The whorl shown is approximately 1.6" diameter; mine was closer to 1.25". Spindle whorls ranged in size down to nearly a half inch diameter. [1]
Maple was in use in Jorvik for turned wood bowls. [2]
